Poured a black color with just a touch of transparency. Nice brown colored thick head which leaves excellent lacing all around the glass.
Smell was of chocolate and coffee. Had a nice aroma.
Taste has good complexity. Could taste the coffe notes and a little dark cocoa flavor coming through. The bitterness hits at the end and lingers in the mouth. Rather light bodied for a porter.
Overall I was pleased and would drink this beer again. It is exactly what the name suggest, a simple porter. I am not a fan of really bitter beers so I was pleased that this porter had some sweet notes along with the bitterness.

Simple Porter is black. Simple as that. There's not even a faint hope of translucency and no real colour (except on its head, which is a light brown shade and looks like latte froth). Sometimes less is more; this 3.7%, plain looking porter might offer more than meets the eye...
Indeed it does. The aroma is full of chocolate brownie and fudge notes. Who says a 'light' beer can't have very dark flavours? Let's see the carny at the 'guess-your-weight' booth get this one right! It doesn't have the staying power to keep me entertained forever but, still, I'm pleased.
The mouthfeel is marked by a (chocolate) milkiness: smooth, lightly sweet, creamy texture and a trace of lactose tang. The aftertaste is remarkably reminiscent of Milk Duds and Maltesers; there's a lot of chewy toffee honeycomb malt and also a lot of milk chocolate.
Having less alcohol content doesn't mean a beer can't still have flavours of coffee and roasted grain. Mind you, this doesn't have the harsh burnt notes or the sooty, heavy-handed bitterness - though it has 40 IBUs - that often accompany those flavours; it is really mild and approachable, a perfect porter to recommend for those just easing themselves into dark beers.
Simple Porter is, indeed, a simple porter - but it's a damn nice one. If I owned a bar I'd have a porter like this on-tap - or, even more ideally, cask - year-round (but especially in the colder months). It provides nearly all the satiation once could want at merely a fraction of the alcohol.
