Look: Rich dark brown, opaque. Tawny beige head pours a finger high. After 5 minutes the head has faded to a nice lacing across the top of the glass.

Smell: Sweet milk chocolate, cocoa and coffee. Hints of something like cookie dough in the mix. No coconut smell so to speak of.

Taste: Starts off mild with the milk chocolate in the front, really punches it up a notch in the middle with chocolate and dark roast coffee with creme as the beer hits the back of your mouth. Pleasing bitterness at the back and crisp on the finish.

Feel: Very velvety and super smooth. Mouth filling and offering something for every section of the mouth. Perfect light carbonation. Really standout mouthfeel. The coconut flavour never really presents itself, but I feel the coconut comes through in the feel, coconut water always seems a touch heavier and richer than regular water and I'm reminded of the feel in this beer.

GLB really hits the ball out of the park on this one. Leaps better than thier Meet the Porters offering. I give this a solid A. I will look for it in the future.

Hanlan’s Point Coconut Coffee Porter by Great Lakes Brewery in Toronto. 6.5% alc. Ingredients are water, malted barley, coffee, hops and yeast.

The beer is a dark brown colour with a minimal beige head that quickly dissipates. Smell is dark malt, coffee, coconut and this all transfers to the taste. The coconut is really quite predominant in this beer. The beer itself is medium bodied with a prickly sweet mouthfeel. The finish is slightly bitter but not burnt.

Good quality product that gets a solid A from me.

A coconut coffee porter.

Another gem given to me from my sister-in-law.

Appearance - Pours a dark chestnut brown with two fingers of frothy mocha tan head.

Smell - earthy, leafy, and weedy hops, cocoa, hint of coconut, coffee bean, roasted malts, and earthy yeast.

Taste - earthy, leafy, and weedy hops upfront. The cocoa, coconut, and coffee bean come through next. The roasted malts and earthy yeast round out the brew.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes smooth with all elements lingering.

Overall - A well rendered coffee porter. I wish there was a touch more coconut as the coffee and cocoa take precedence. Nonetheless, a quality brew from this brewery.

The cute brewery strikes again with an urban legend story on can art that honours Canada’s well known nude beach. You could stop there I suppose but I decided to open up the 473 Nov 2020 brew into a tulip. Midnight liquorice greets thee and offers tremendous collar that sadly skinny dips away into the night. Alas. Cocoa coffee nose greets you strongly. The coconut is subtle with roasted malts underneath. A light porter here with fine fizz. Coffee meets you first with coconut lowering the bitter. Not too sweet either. This one works for a hearty dinner, dessert, heck even a “good morning”. A decent addition to a solid lineup here.

Bottle: Poured a black color porter with a large brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of coffee notes with some roasted malt and light coconut is pleasant enough. Taste is a good mix of roasted malt with some strong coffee notes and some coconut notes. Body is thinner then I was expecting with some good carbonation. Not bad but body is defiantly too thin.

Got this one from the LCBO this past summer

Coconut Coffee Porter

APPARANCE: Clear dark brown pour yields a 2+ finger, medium looking, slightly foamy, light tan head with very good retention. Clear black body with no real carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a decent foamy cap and leaves some lacing on the glass. A half wisp remains leaving some decent lacing down the glass as it empties.

SMELL: Some roasted coffee, sweet cream, vanilla and definite coconut on the nose.

TASTE: Coconut and coffee are there up front, with some roasted coffee flavors, caramel and vanilla at the swallow. A medium finish of roasted coffee, sweet vanilla, cream and coconut character lingers on the palate.

PALATE: Medium body and slightly higher levels of carbonation. Creamy and light on the palate, a touch foamy, goes down fine and finishes a bit dry. A touch of bitterness lingers.

OVERALL: Pretty good. The coffee is restrained and slightly roasted while the coconut addition adds a well-measured sweetness to the story. Good looking and a solid, though slightly carbonated feel help to make this a rather enjoyable porter. Another good Great Lakes brew. Check it out if you can. Recommended.

650ml bottle.

Jet black with creamy light head that dissipates slowly and leaves little trace of lacing. Notes of black coffee, brown sugar on the nose. Sharp coffee bitterness followed by notes of coconut, cooked sugar. The bitterness is more pronounced than I would like, and seems to make the adjunct flavours take a back seat. On the thinner side.
