4oz nitro sample at bar hop (peter st), toronto, oct 7 2015. black with ruby highlights and a nice tan head on top. really roasty in the nose -- coffee and bittersweet chocolate. raisins, prunes, and cherries as well. the taste follows the nose with huge malt flavour all around. cherry and raisin notes appear in the mid-palate, as well as hints of rye, mimicking pumpernickel almost. the finish lingers with roasty, malty sweet, and spicy rye notes. medium mouthfeel and creamy. an amazing beer that impressively packs so much flavour and mouthfeel at a low abv

Quite clearly a rye based beer. Sweet, grainy, fulsome on the palate. Quite malty, a bit of charcoal and chocolate. Some very nice dark fruit happening as the beer warms. Easy drinking, but maybe only one or two for the sweetness of it.

This is a rye stout. The rye is notable but not strong. Decent beer, tasty but not remarkable. I would be happy to have it again but woudn't go looking for it.
