Oh my. This is a frontal assault on the senses. It's a gorgeous beer - pitch black with a fluffy brown head that hangs around to remind you what you've gotten yourself into. The smell is enticing - Tennessee whiskey, chocolate malt and citra hop - cha ching! What I love about the flavour profile is that the hops don't dick around - they push forward past the usual char/coffee/chocolate notes and remind you that "You are drinking a beer with HOPS, MOTHERF$#&*R!!!" Another well crafted brew from GLB's Tank Ten series. Thanks again @msjpearson for the CANBIF treat.

473ml can into snifter. relatively fresh, bought it from the retail fridge. bourbon barrel-aged imperial black IPA with citra hops. not willing to age this due to it being hopped the way it is apparently
a: pitch black with nice creamy light brown head, mahogany glow at the bottom of the glass
s: vibrant citra hop punch (passionfruit, guava, mango, grapefruit, orange) backed lightly by the chocolaty, roasty malt. shy caramel-y vanilla-y bourbon weaves in and out of these aromas. very slight hint of alcohol. bourbon characteristics dominate over the hops as the beer warms
t: guava-dominant tropical fruit juice up front with a bit of piney hop flavour, then the rest of the tasting presents high cocoa-% dark chocolate, black coffee, and strong bourbon notes of chunky sweet caramel, vanilla, charred wood, and marshmallow. boozy but never detracting. hoppy finish. like the nose, the bourbon becomes much more prominent over the hops when the beer is warm, but the finish still remains slightly fruity, dank, piney, and hoppy
m: medium and creamy with nearly non-existent carbonation, great for the style. at this strength for the beer, i'd rather have that silky smoothness rather than a carbonated IPA feel
o: i still am not a fan of the style -- i'd rather that all strong black IPAs just drop the hops and become imperial stouts lol. okay so maybe i should have aged this to let the hops fade. but there's no denying this is a damn good beer with massive flavours. my love for GLB edges out over my dislike of black IPAs i guess
