I had this on tap at the Olde Angel Inn in Niagara on the Lake. The bartender said it was a red lager contract brewed by Great Lakes brewing Company. The rest of their house beers are brewed by Niagara Falls Brewery.
Pours a reddish brown with a crackly modest head and lame lacing. The aroma is of some sweet malt and roastyness with some tart yeast. The taste is very full bodied but decidedly lager like. Theres a nice roasted malt flavor, some grain hulls and some subtle hop bitterness. Theres a bit of a funky horsey yeast in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and crisp.
I almost think this is a red ale as its quite full flavored and estery and Ive never experienced such a roasty flavor in a lager, though what the hell do I know. The bartender was adament that its a lager as well.
