Can: Poured a pitch-black color porter with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of black chocolate notes with light roasted malt and floral coffee notes is quite enticing. Taste is a mix of black chocolate notes with some roasted malt notes and floral coffee notes is great. Body is quite full with a good creamy texture and good carbonation with no apparent alcohol notes.Solid baltic porter with great drinkability.

Look: Pours dark brown bordering on black. Slight cherry rim at the edges where the light shines through. The head is barely noticable at pour and is fully gone within a minute.

Smell: Leather, vanilla, cocoa and coffee beans. Noticable sweet imperial stout like oily syrupy nose.

Taste: Vanilla, hot chocolate, and coffee beans up front. Sweet leather and dark coffee by mid sip.

Feel: Medium bodied. Very silky and creamy. Has a definately oily imperial stout type back end, with the alcohol peaking in.

Wish this was widely available at the LCBO. I was lucky to get ahold of it by stopping in at the brewery. This is very reminiscent of Wellington's Imperial Stout, which is something I can find at the local LCBO on a regular basis. It earns an A -.

Pours opaque black with cherry edges and a small, quickly dissipating tan head. Rich chocolate grenache notes, cookie dough and rum cake in the nose. The taste is Intensely chocolatey with dark cocoa nibs and Quick chocolate syrup amongst other flavors. Black coffee and some leafy, herbal hops in the back. The mouthfeel is full bodied with light carbonation. Light bitterness and an abundance of chocolatey malt flavors in the long finish.

A fantastic take on this interesting style. Rich and complex. I will seek this out again.

This is a nice porter but nothing is roboust about it. Not the nose, not the head and definitely not the taste, which is slightly thin and on the aftertaste, a bit watery. Having said all this, it is still a nice flavoured porter, that is rescued by just enough coffee and vanilla to avoid disappointment. If they could only have aged this in bourbon barrels...
A good brew to have, even if there are better in the style.

Part of their 7 Barrel Series.

Appearance - Pours a deep jet cola brown with two fingers of frothy beige head.

Smell - earthy and leafy hops, coffee bean, cocoa, chocolate, roasted malts, dark fruits (plum, cherry, raisin), and earthy yeast.

Taste - earthy and leafy hops upfront then quickly goes into the bitter coffee bean. The cocoa, chocolate, roasted malts, and dark fruits (plum, cherry, and raisin) come through next. The brew is finished off by the earthy yeast.

Mouthfeel - Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes smooth with the warmth of the alcohol, hops, coffee bean, cocoa, and dark fruits lingering.

Overall - A highly enjoyable brew that definitely has coffee as the forefront. The other elements work together to make an outstanding and flavourful brew.

Got this one from Pino this past summer. Cheers!

Baltic Porter with coffee and cacao nibs

APPEARANCE: Clear brown pour yields a thin, foamy, fizzy, light tan head with lousy retention. Noisy, fizzy and foamy head on this one. Bistre brown body with no real carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a half wisp and leaves some lacing on the glass. A slight ring remains until the end but leaves no lacing on the glass. Okay color but the head is rather lousy.

SMELL: Strong coffee aromas. Roasted coffee beans with sweet cream, milk chocolate and vanilla. The burnt and roasted coffee is definitely the star here. Bold stuff.

TASTE: Roasted and burnt coffee beans with sweet cream up front. Vanilla and milk chocolate as well. Bold and lingering finish of roasted, bitter coffee, sweet cream and vanilla, with some chocolate as well. This is a very satisfying pot of coffee.

PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes a bit dry. Some bitter coffee lingers.

OVERALL: This is good stuff for sure. It’s very coffee forward, but it’s delicious coffee if that’s your thing. The head is definitely the weak link here but besides that minor detail, this was enjoyable all the way through. Check it out if you’re a fan of coffee porters. Thanks again, Pino!
