Tetrahedron Rum Barrel Aged at 11.5%.

Part of their 7 Barrel Series limited brews.

Appearance - Pours a ruby amber with two fingers of bubbly white head.

Smell - earthy and leafy hops, plum, raisin, and fig, candied sugar, caramel sweetness from the rum barrel, bready malts, hint of cherry, and earthy yeast.

Taste - earthy and leafy hops upfront. It then goes into the plum, raisin, fig, and candied sugar. The caramel sweetness from the barrel comes through next. The brew finishes with the bready malts, hint of cherry, and earthy yeast.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes sticky with the rum barrel elements and dark fruits lingering.

Overall - A pleasant barrel-aged brew from Great Lakes. This one is a dangerous sippper as the ABV is well hidden. A nice treat on this somewhat cool winter evening.

Probably the best Canadian representation of a Belgian Quad (trappist, grand cru) outside of Quebec. Unfortunately it emulates Rochefort, which is not my favourite of the style. But the fact that it emulates it decently, kind of says something.
The bad part here is the nose, which isn't the usual banana, bread and spice, but rather the smell of a metal pipe.
The head is wonderful and shows that this beer is far from the usual thin replication of this style. And it isn't. Very yeasty, along with a nice hop-spice combo. This is how this style should taste, more or less.
