After consumed a clearly aged beer (refrigerated but 8+ mos), discovered this had been recalled by GLB due to ongoing fermentation in the can resulting in some can rupture..... Mine did not rupture and being I purchased in Toronto at the brewery and live 3 provinces west this was not going back anyway.
Pours a very dark brown to clear black with a finger and half of mocha head.
Aroma of dark chocolate, cocoa powder, coffee grounds, and a just slightly vegetal note - intermittently note a little metallic presence.
Tastes of slightly bitter dark chocolate, day old coffee, again a vegetal note, but then turns to the serrano pepper for a warming, mildly spicy effect.
Slightly prickly warmth on the tongue (which is honestly my favourite part of this beer) on a slightly thin body with decent carbonation. A warming dark chocolate spiciness sits nicely on the palate, saving the beer (if you like spice).
