The lager style known now as Bock, originated in Einbeck, Germany. Munich brewers, who later started brewing it, in their Bavarian accent pronounced "Einbeck" as "ein Bock", meaning "a goat/buck".
Then, monks in Munich came up with a bigger, stronger version of the copper-coloured, full-bodied, toasty and malty lager, and called it a Doppelbock.
A few centuries after that, we thought it fitting to further the wordplay tradition with our homage to the style and named this beer ‘Two Goats’.

Look: Pours a semi transparent carmel brown, makes me think of ice tea. Pours with a finger of offwhite (tawny white) head. After 5 minutes the head has disappeared for the most part leaving a small ring around the side of the glass.
Smell: Caramel dominates, with earthy malty qualities of humus. I also pick up figs, raisins, christmas cake, and a discernible booziness.
Taste: Dark breads, pumpernickel and cracked rye on the front sip. The toasty qualities give way to a dry grass sweetness in the middlesip and noticeable and warming rye whiskey taste to end on.
Feel: Medium bodied. Slightly oily and slick at the backside. Plays the most at the back and sides of the tongue.
Easilty the best Ontario Doppelbock I've ever had. Great Lakes can always be counted on to make a great beer, regardless of style. If your a fan of a good bready beer look no further. This earns an A.

Another treat from my sister-in-law.
Appearance - Pours a copper with two fingers of off-white head.
Smell - earthy, leafy, and weedy hops, caramel, dark fruits (raisin, plum, and fig), bready and biscuity malts, and earthy yeast.
Taste - earthy, leafy, and weedy hops upfront. Then it quickly goes into the dark fruits (raisin, plum, and fig). The bready and biscuity malts and caramel come through next. The earthy yeast rounds out the brew.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes sticky from the malts and fruits. There is a slight warmth from the ABV that lingers.
Overall - Another fantastic brew from the folks at Great Lakes. A nice representation of the style. These guys rarely disappoint,

Pours russet red with a creamy two finger head that lasts a long time, draping the glass in foam. The aroma is of raisins, fruit compote, berries, barley grains, some spicy booze notes and some leafy hops. The follows suit with an abundance of malt flavors with amazing complexity. The mouthfeel is full bodied with moderate carbonation. The finish is lightly bitter with lingering malt notes.
A fantastic Doppelbock that is the first beer I would describe as dank in the malt department. Complex and juicy while never approaching cloying. Excellent representation of the style from the best brewery in Ontario.
