Got this from Emma & Terry. Cheers!
From a can into a snifter
Canned 2 April 2021
Maple syrup barrel aged imperial stout
APPEARANCE: Pours a clear dark brown yielding a one finger, looser, foamy, fizzy, light tan head with lousy retention. Head quickly fizzes away to a ring only. Bistre brown body with piles of carbonation evident on this one. Head has no staying power though. This isn’t all that attractive. It’s also obnoxiously noisy.
SMELL: Decent nose of whisky, oak, booze, with touches of maple, caramel and hints of vanilla on the nose. Some brown sugar as well. Pretty boozy and wood forward.
TASTE: Boozy with whisky and oak up front, then some light maple flavor, caramel, touches of vanilla, as well as some woody spirits at the swallow. Bold and boozy finish of wood, alcohol, light hints of maple, caramel, a touch of vanilla and brown sugar linger on the palate. Very sweet and plenty of booze. Not really maple syrup forward.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. A bit prickly on the palate, not all that creamy, goes down fine with a bit of a bite and finishes mouth-coating. Some decent heat lingers.
OVERALL: Definitely a disappointment. The look is sad right off the bat, with an overly light color and fizzy, annoying head, and the rest of the experience doesn’t really make up for it. It’s very boozy, even for 11%, and the maple character isn’t nearly pronounced enough. I may be expecting a lot, but I think I’m justified in expecting a lot from Great Lakes, as they usually deliver. Not quite here. Yes the beer is a year and a half old, but it should be better than this still.

I forgot to add the ABV - it's a potent 11.8%.
Now, the pour of this doesn't give you any sexy head or lacing, but the nose is very nice maple. And let's just be clear, this isn't just maple here. It's actual Ontario maple syrup. The real deal, which makes for the wonderful aroma. But that's where the combo stops working properly. The syrup's bitterness so overwhelms everything within, that you don't taste anything else. Not the bourbon barrels, nothing really. I feel that they could have eased off a bit on the amount of maple syrup added, as this is just too much. As such, this doesn't work as it could have, as it should have. Drinkable, but not overly enjoyable.
