Can-conditioned six weeks. The word Wanderlüst (literally translated as 'the enjoyment of hiking') stems from the German tradition of wandering in search of nothing more than a connection with one's natural surroundings. On such wanderings, one might find themself in the German-speaking region of eastern Wallonia, Belgium, surrounded by rich forested valleys and vast meadows only to have their journey most pleasantly interrupted by the option of resting with a homemade refreshment. Perhaps a rustic lager made with an array of grains that are available in and around the village. A rustic lager not unlike this one.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 355mL in two Great Lakes Brewery taster glasses. From Vaughan, Ontario's Small Batch Dispatch's May curation. My thirteenth beer from the Etobicoke, Ontario brewery, and third for 2025...

Another brew gifted to me from my sister-in-law.

Appearance - Pours a pale straw with three fingers of bubbly white head.

Smell - earthy, leafy, grassy, and floral hops, lemon, biscuity and grainy malts, and earthy yeast.

Taste - earthy, leafy, grassy, and floral hops upfront. The lemon alongside the biscuity and grainy malts follow suit. The earthy yeast rounds out the brew.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes crisp with a pleasant bitterness lingering.

Overall - A crisp, refreshing and sessionable brew from Great Lakes. This one I can see myself drinking on the top of a scenic hike looking down at the beautiful surroundings.

Pours pale gold with a wispy, small head. Bready, grainy pale malts and some herbal, tropical hops in the nose. The taste is malty with a fresh bread character. Herbal, eucalyptus hops provide plenty of balance. The mouthfeel is light bodied with high carbonation. Moderate bitterness and plenty of cookie dough and fruity hops in the finish.

A nice, straightforward lager with a bit more hops than the norm. Worth a try.
