A: Bronze with an off white head, good retention, light lace.
S: Herbal, steelie grass, earthy, orange rind, sponge toffee, hints of fruity esters.
T: Bitterness is up front & continues to linger, herbal & grassy, steelie earth, orange rind, sponge toffee, bready malt, light caramel, candied pineapple, hints of alcohol warmth.
M: Smooth, moderately full body has a light residual sweetness and hints of hop acidity.
D: A big brew with a nice balance; I like it.
I'm not a fan of the 'double pils' style, which often seems like a malt liquor with a whack of hops. But this one has the malt backbone of a Maibock and it works. And there's still a huge whack of hop flavour & bitterness here... a bit like a blonde barleywine!
