No complexity. Not as good as the regular APA in the cans. Lots of wafting c-hop aroma. Musty oak, not the best bottling job. A little acidic bitterness. Oak detracted rather than contributing any compexity. An experiment that is drinkable. Average mouthfeel.
Bottle from the brewery.

Project X bottle from the brewery. ABV 6%, IBU of 50.
Poured in to Founder's Tulip glass.

A - Medium to dark amber colour with half a finger of cream coloured head that very quickly disappeared.

S - Citrus hop bitterness, some pine and sweet caramel. Some light woody notes come through but I don't get a lot of the oak barrels in the nose.

T - A decent bitterness up front with some pine and citrus coming through. Some caramel sweetness balances out the hops and some light oak/wood flavours are evident as well but are definitely in the background as they were in the nose.

M - Medium body, light carbonation. Some chew.

O - A solid beer. Hopefully Great Lakes continues with experiments like this one in the future.

Bottle from the brewery, 650ml split into a tulip.

Pours dark brown with some reddish hues, just a tad darker over than the regular Devil's Pale Ale. Bright white (almost eggshell) head, that falls to some bubbles and thin head. Nose is hopped like the regular 666, citrus, a bit of lemon, tangerine with a slight oak component as well. Taste mutes the hops siginificantly, some oak, a bit of green apple and allows the a more caramel malt to take center stage. Decent mouthfeel, but I felt like this wasn't the best treatment for the beer. Enjoyable and something I'd go back to, but not outstanding by any means.
