650ml bomber poured into tulip 13/10/11 from liamt07

A dark cola with a large beige head that has excellent retention and leaves several partial rings of lace

S quite hoppy with plenty of yeast, some spicy fruit and a little sweet malt

T much like the smell but even more yeast and there's some prune in there as well

M a little thin and it sorta explodes in your mouth from the bubbles, swirl this one more then normal

O interesting brew for sure half a dubbel if that makes any sense, not boring but not overly exciting either

the ideas there and with some fine tuning I think this could be something great. I'm just happy I got to try it and I need to thank liamt07 for that

Bottle from the brewery of course. I find these Project X beers are quite hit or miss... which I guess is the idea of experimental stuff. I'd like to see Lackey give some more attempts at some of these and really dial them in.

A: Pours with dark brown with a really nice off white head. lasts quite awhile and laces well. Looks like a great beer!

S: A little subdued, but not without character, you just have to search for it a bit. Quite malty, but hops are there too. Certainly a more bready rather than buscuity representation. Very slight clove, earth, leather and even a wee bit of funk.

T: Taste confirms the nose. this is a easy drinking beer with some hidden character.

M: Impressive mouthfeel. nice and crisp, medium bodied, not sticky at all. Rather sweet however, not much dryness.

Overall: A solid attempt. Sort of a Belgian version of an English brown ale, which is what the style brings to mind (for me).

Bottle shared by Pino, 650ml Project X bomber into a tulip. Label rates this at 12 IBUs.

Poured a brown mahogany, with a fluffy and creamy tan head. Nose is of a typical brown ale, chocolate, malty and some mild roasted notes. A Belgian yeast quality is certainly present on top of this however. Taste is compromised of some roasty and toasty malts, and more of the Belgian yeast notes. Dry and extensive finish, almost parching to the palate. Medium carbonation. Enjoyable, but I felt that there was something missing here. Nice but I'm not completely sold on this one.

Bottle from the brewery

Deep brown, 2 fingers of white head, good lace on the glass. Smell is of belgian yeast, dark fruits, plum, raisin, roast malt and light alcohol notes. Taste is deeply roasted malt, belgian yeast, some of the dark fruit comes back, finishes with more toasted malts, high bitterness given that it is only 12 IBU. Medium carb, medium body, fairly good feel. I quite liked this, sessionable because of low ABV, good stuff.

The rep's description of the style, but its a cross style experiment. 12 Ibu, something of a black ale, yet very yeasty aroma. A big soapy head. Very roasty almost burnt parts. Dark amber body. Tastes like a mild stout. Carbonation right there. Good drinkability.Peeno's bottle.
