Bottle shared by Pino, Project X bottle from the brewery. Listed at 99 IBUs. Into a snifter.
Poured a very dark burgundy, almost blackish in some respects. Tan head that leaves some lacing and big bubbles behind. Nose is strong in the malt profile, with a great hop presence as well. Tropical (citra, surely), pineapple, pine and alcohol. Loving these hop profiles Lackey's been working with lately. Taste is malt first, but there's no denying the freshness of the bottle with the juiciness and chewiness imparted by the hops - the profile of which reflects the nose - pineapple, pine etc. Bitter, chewy and full feel - straddles the line between American Strong Ale and American Barleywine I thought. Interesting throughout and something that needs to be revisited by Great Lakes.

Thanks to Rob at Great Lakes for the bottle, Double Devils Pale Ale 999 big brother to Devils Pale Ale 666
Deep brown colour, nice off white head, sticky with good lace. Smell is bursting with hops, citrus, malt, big in every way, grapefruit and tangerine. Taste is full of grapefruit, hops and malt, lightly roasted, bitter but not too crazy given IBU of 99, good balance. Good feel, nice medium carbonation, full body. Could knock this bomber off no problem, good thing I liked the guys I shared this with, reminds me of Arrogant Bastard a bit. More of an American Strong Ale than DIPA in my opinion.

Also 99 IBU. Wafts hop aromas upon opening. Dark body with enormous two-and-a-half inches of head. Orange taste, citra, spot on DIPA without wrecking the palate. Barleywine or strong ale is our consensus of it. Good and substantive bitterness. Peen's bottle from rep.
