Bottle from the brewery, Project X. Rated at 86 IBUs. Into a tulip.

Pours fairly dark, almost black with a couple fingers of a dusty mocha head. Blotchy lace coats the glass, and some decent retention remains. Nose has lots of grape, and candied/caramelized dark fruits. Quite a bit of Belgian yeast qualities, almost along the lines of the Unibroue strain (although this appears to be a bit more restrained - Unibroue-lite). Some licorice as well. Taste goes awry, taking the profile in several directions in disconnect. Some hoppy and light fruity notes, alcohol with some roastiness and back end bitterness, dark chocolate and candied notes which prevail form the nose. Spicy herbal licorice notes reappear, some light rubber tires, chocolate, burnt bread. Roast and alcohol are long in the finish. Medium full body and alcohol is dominant throughout; genuinely confusing as to the direction this brew was trying to head in. Difficult to move through, and certainly stylistically in a category of its own I'd think. Too much going on here to be enjoyable I thought.

An underated beer. A little aging made all the difference, to give this an American strong quality. A decent dark Belgian base with a pleasant understated citrus hoppy finish. Fuller mouthfeel. tasty and dangerously drinkable. Pours extreme brown colour witha retained head. Mildly pleasant aroma.

650 ml bomber sent out west by liamt07 poured into tulip 16/10/11

A darker side of cola with a cola like head that's noisy, gone in seconds and leaves zero lace

S some yeasty dark fruits with some booze, spice and what I see, cola

T not far from the smell, decent but not nearly as complex as some world class BDSA's

M a little heat and a earthy lingering aftertaste, enough carbonation to give it some life

O tough style to attempt and its just not up there with a 6$ 750ml from Quebec, nothings off just a little boring

Stoked there's Canadian breweries trying new things even if it's hit or miss. "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take" -The Great One
