L: Dark black, light creeps around the edges, small head disappears leaving delicate laces

S: Nice subtle mix of Chimay yeast (tart and estery) with light alcohol and citric hops presence.

T: Yeast forward with slight chewy hops, hops stays with an underlying roasted bitterness that grows to hold the finish.

M: Perfectly creamy – not too thick, not too thin; velvety roundness.

O: Really enjoyed this experiment.

Bottle from the brewery, 500ml into a tulip. Bronze waxing - 70 IBUs, conditioned with Chimay yeast.

Opaque deep brown/black with a generous 3+ finger head. Creamy appearance, medium sized bubbles leaving some fairly dense lacing. Nose has quite bit going on, typical black ale characteristics in some chocolate, light roast, cola and licorice and a good dose of hops - piney, citrusy and floral. A bit of a spicy notes, likely derived from the yeast - complex and inviting. Taste is bitter and roasty, dark chocolate and coffee grain-like. Hops come in almost immediately as well, piney and grassy-herbal with less fruit/citrus than the nose suggested. Yeast in the finish, and again a light spiciness. Body is lighter than I would've liked, relatively thin and a bit watery. Bitterness prevails long into the finish. A nice beer, and certainly nice to have the pleasure to have tried.

Bottle courtesy of Mike Lackey, also sold at the brewery. Black as night with great retained head of an inch of off-white soapy head. Very roasted and chocolate smell. The taste is black IPA, though burnt and almost burnt parts. Above average mouthfeel. Drinkable, but hampering it was so many little pieces of wax that becoame hard and was impossible to remove completely, subseqently falling into the glass.
