Got this at the brewery while I was back in Canada.
From a bomber into a snifter
Project X Series
IBU: 18
APPEARANCE: A clear brown pour yields a once finger, looser looking, foamy tan head with decent retention. Head quickly recedes to a half, foamy film. Black body with no carbonation evident. A foamy ring remains and leaves some dots of lacing down the glass.
SMELL: Medium nose of whisky, oak notes, mint notes, lightly smoked aromas, all of which could be collectively interpreted as vegetables. Odd aromas of meat to go with the mint and oak. Not my thing. Overcooked dinner.
TASTE: Wow this is gross. Smoky meat, mint and vegetables up front. Bold enough finish of oak, whisky notes, mint flavors, some smoky meat and vegetables. Boiled vegetables. Over cooked too. Not my thing in the least.
PALATE: Thinner body and higher levels of carbonation. A little light on the palate, airy as well, goes down bubbly and finishes a touch dry. Too light and airy for sure.
OVERALL: For all the things this brewery as done well in the stout beer department, they have to make this. One of the more horrific creations to have seen my glass, I'm lucky I didn't lose any sleep over this one. Pretty awful. Flavors are simply pretty gross and it's too foamy and thin. I appreciate this brewery pushing the envelope and will gladly try a potential crapper in hopes of finding another 25th Anniversary gem, but I will also reluctantly call a spade a spade. Can't win 'em all. Keep up the exciting work guys!

On tap at The Rhino winterfest. Very root beer taste, but sarsaparilla to an extreme.A novelty Black with no head. Extract? OK drinkability but not something I would try again. Not so stoutish, it needs to have this flavouring in the secondary, as in root beer of some evil.
