On-tap at Bar Hop during the Great Lakes/Bellwoods takeover.
Beer is black with a small cocoa-coloured head. The little head that exists largely sticks around.
Even in the nose, you can tell that this is a heavy beer. Roasted malt and chocolate jump out, some coffee. Like fudge.
The flavour is super heavy and thick- this is one big stout. Lots of chocolate and roasted malt. Anise is prominent as well, with a dose of vanilla. Some coffee in the finish. Nothing subtle here- it clubs you over the head. That being said, it tastes very good. Nothing unusual, just a big strong dose of RIS flavours. Moderately bitter and generously hopped, but the hop flavours do not cut through the malt for me. Considering the high ABV, the alcohol is well hidden (ie, it drinks like a 10% beer!).
Full bodied (big time). Moderate to low carbonation level. Slick and smooth. A fair bit of heat.
Overall? You can't drink a lot of this- it is enormous. But it is also very good.
