Poured from the bottle into a Libbey style pilsner glass.
A mix of rust and slightly murky brown to orange for a body color. Manages a fleeting three finger very soapy pinhead bubbled head, that settles to a good half finger puck. A bit of fine carbonation, but the murkiness manages a bit of displeasure.
Manages a very solid clean caramel, and good mix of toasty malts. Pretty straightforward but gets the basics down nicely. Has a hint of slight crispy toffee note as well, if a faint bit of almost banana like sweetness.
For a lager there's quite a bit going on here. Clean but also some light toffee sweetness and hints of honey. Finishes with a bit of strong almost fruity estery yeast qualities of apple and banana. Great solid malt backbone with decent depth and an almost candy apple chewy quality.
Interesting take on a lager, certainly solid and decent if pretty straightforward.

From 7/9/10 notes. Brought to a local DC tasting.
a - Pours a golden color with 1 inch of white head and light carbonation.
s - Smells of grain, bready malts, and yeast.
t - Tastes of grain and bready malts. Not much going on.
m - Light to medium body and low carbonation.
d - Turns out the bottle was about 8 months past the best by date. It wasn't bad but didn't seem to have much going on; it seems like a lot has faded. I would suggest drinking this one fresh.

Although no genius of a beer, the Drôlesse, another bottom fermentation beer from Sancerroise, is still a pleasant brew. The pour is golden with a very slight taint of orange, and a bright white head, large enough, that lasts for long. very carbonated. The smell is invaded by malt and slightly, you can also feel some hops. The taste, rather soft on both is characterized also by a feel of wheat, a slightly creamy body with a good amount of carbonation, and a tad of a bitter ending. Nothing out of the ordinary- their other brews are sitll better.
