Pours a golden body with big frothy head

Slight metallic note of the nose, no big aroma

The taste starts well with Slightly wheaty start then the hops just fail to ignite really faint honey and citrus and the bitter end you hardly notice at all

It's thin the mouthfeel and that means there isn't much real difference to a macro lager other than the low key carbonation.

Gold seems to be a brewery byword for bland.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of April 2013. Picked up a while back from Booths. Described on the label as a blonde continental-style beer, whatever that means. Wold Top's best selling beer.

Poured into a straight pint glass. A rich golden-amber colour with faint haze and medium carbonation. Forms a small head of white foam that lasts for a minute or two before subsiding. Aroma of light, grainy malt with hints of stewed hops and wet cardboard. A faint whiff of peppery floral hops and a harsh background quality that is mildly reminiscent of sulphur. Not great.

Tastes of light, grainy malt with a dry finish. Notes of stewed hops, wet cardboard, mild fruity ale yeast and faint aromatic citrus. Slightly peppery. Well attenuated, with a restrained bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and spicy, with pleasant carbonation and decent body. Overly dry. Rather astringent, with an aftertaste of acrid cardboard and stewed leaves.

A so-so pale ale that doesn't stand out from the crowd. Looks OKish, but the aroma is lacklustre and the taste is surprisingly harsh. The weak malt and light hop aroma don't add up to much, and the mouthfeel isn't refreshing. A forgettable ale that leaves you cold - Wold Top make some great beers but this isn't one of them. No need to seek it out.

The name "Light Beer" refers to the colour, not the alc. content I suppose... Coming in a 500ml brown bottle, filtered and pasteurised. BB 07/2007, served cool in a straight imperial pint glass.

A: the golden nectar holds constantly lively, tiny fizziness and a thin white fluffy foam with good retention; looking rather artificial but refreshing enough.
S: caramelised/burned sugar, cream, honey-drink, tangerine+lemon-flavoured citrus syrup, and a thickly floral fragrance from Styrian Goldings--all these elements come together. Very fruity overall, but slightly sharp and off-balance towards the sweet side.
T: lightly sweet pale malts upfront get mixed well with the floral elements of Styrian Goldings; the citric-fruity edge lags behind with a pleasantly sour kick, along with a belated entry of mild hop bitterness and dryish palate that lingers until the end. There's not much to entertain my senses in the aftertaste; rather, it remains quite clean.
M&D: lightly spritzy but not OTT, quite o.k. for a filtered Bitter; the body is light, the flavour is fruity, but overall the flavour remains rather timid in both the malt and hop compartments. All in all, this Blond Bitter doesn't perform as well as the other Wold Top products across the board.
