A creamy, smooth, Caribbean style dry stout. Black as a revenooer's heart and roasty as Juan Valdez's breakfast. Great in black & tans.

First of all, they do a disservice to the beer by offering it to you in an iced pint glass. But once the ice goes away and you let the beer warm up you get a good feel for the beer.

When I got the pint I immediately commented that it must be a nitro stout due to the creaminess of the head. One sip and that was confirmed. Still, this beer looked like any good nitro stout: dark brown body with a tan, creamy head.

It was really hard to get any kind of smell from the beer and you really had to try. But very subtly you could manage to sense some toast, but just barely.

The beer tasted like that famous of nitro stouts, almost exactly like it. It had toast, but not to the point of burnt. The malts still gave off some bitterness which abated a little as the beer warmed. This was creamy and smooth with a medium body and I could have sat and drank them all day. I regret not getting the ABV on this one and their web site is no help.

Although I wasn't all that impressed with this beer I have to admit they did a stellar job of recreating the recipe for Guinness.

This is a nice version of dry Irish stout with malted chocolatey mocha flavor. The nose and taste are similar and both quite nice. The appearance is deep ruby/black with a beautiful tan head and nice lacing in a standard pint. Mouthfeel is nice and thick with a chewiness that allows the flavor to linger with every sip. Much like the giants of the style: Guinness, Murphys, Beamish; it is surprisingly sessionable due to the relatively lower caloric content despite a full bodied taste. Cheers to Marty and Ben for a nice offering.
