This full bodied ale has a deep red hue with a distinctive malty character, provided by just the right blend of Crystal malts. It's well balanced by an assortment of the freshest hops available for a smooth clean yet bitter finish. Approximately 5.8% ABV and 50 IBUs.

Nice take on a red. Beautiful amber colour with a decent white head.
Interesting caramel-y malts, with a slight hop citrus and a mild smoky scent. Yummy bread, caramel and a nice, zesty hoppiness. Good hop punch, making this lean a little bit towards an IPA. This might works as a CIPA if it used darker malts. This is a little bit too piquant on the tongue, both in terms of flavour and carbonation. It could benefit from being a bit smoother.

The Waimea Brewing Company sits on an incredible piece of property on the southern end of Kaua'i and is worth searching out after exploring the Waimea Canyon area. I came in parched and wanted to save my taste buds for a tasty-looking IPA the bartender was pouring so I started with a thirst quenching Cane Fire Red.
The red pours with a generous inch-tall creamy eggshell-colored head that dissipates to an eighth-of-an-inch with incredible lacing. Cane Fire Red throws a malty nose with surprising yeast notes. On first sip, the Crystal malts come to the forefront and are followed by a spicy hop finish. This beer is dangerously quaffable and just the ticket after a day spent in the island sun.

Appearance Arrived clear, copper colored with a great off-white head and heavy lacing.
Smell Non-descript malts.
Taste This is medium-hoppy and there's very little else going on. It's not bad, but it's very simple.
Mouthfeel Medium, appropriately carbonated mouthfeel.
Drinkability Of the three Waimea brews I tried, this one is the most drinkable. It's slightly better than your average beer, but I would not go out of my way to have it again.

Enjoyed on tap at the Waimea Brewing Company in Kauai.
Aroma: Smoky!? A red ale smoky? Ok. Some roasted hop smell too (no, Ive never roasted hops, but thats what it smelled like).
Appearance: Brace yourself: red. It had a nice white head that laced well. Not hard on the eyes.
Flavor: Something is wrong. A very off, metallic, forgive me; sewer taste really just kills off any enjoyment of the other flavors. Its not an overwhelming flaw, but it is not right.
Mouthfeel: Strong carbonation and a clean finish.
Overall Impression: The off flavor really hurts an inventive and generally decent beer. I think the brewer may have gotten a bit too inventive.
