Dropped into the Goulburn brewery on the way through to Canberra.
A lovely old, heritage listed group of buildings which originally included malting floors & a kilning tower.
From this beer, I'm not sure any of that goes on here anymore. In fact, I don't think any grain enters the site.
This beer was so reminiscent of my early homebrew attempts, I can wonder if stale liquid malt extract is the base. And the yeast profile only compounds the impression.
$89 for a carton of beer is completely unreasonable considering the quality of the contents. (I only bought a sample pack, thankfully).
I can only suppose that all the proceeds are channelled back into the brewery preservation fund. Maybe next year I can claim the cost of the beer as a tax deductable donation.

This was kinda interesting, if a bit dull. The mouthfeel is quite watery, yet, toasty caramelly malts come through, aswell as some light fruit (i was thinking either apples or pears). Slightly honeyed. With a dry, salty finish. Pretty easy to drink, definitely "light" but in a not so boring way. Simple, but nice.

First up, this beer is way too dark to be a Sparkling Ale. It pours a dark coloured copper, with fine bubbles with low carbonation. Almost no smell at all, but not unappealing. Suprisingly the taste, with hardly any hop flavour at all, the amber ale looking beer tastes of caramel, strange that the flavour leaves your mouth only a second or two after swallowing. The redeeming qualities of this beer is that it's probably one of the few remaining Real Ale's left in Australia, plus although lack of taste it's still quite drinkable.
