Had this one while traveling up to Marquette, Michigan in the UP. Stopped at a little place in Suamico called Shooters I believe. Was sparsely attended, about 4 other dudes, good drinking times, and of course, shots, shots, shots.
Black ale pours black. The system works. The aroma displayed roasted malt and bittering hops to a lesser degree.
The taste kept banging away on the roasted maltiness. Mouthfeel wasn't all heavy thick like a big porter, but it also still lacked a degree of hoppiness to put it in the black ipa category. Seemed underhopped for an ipa. In a way, it seemed almost like they tried to make a blonde ale black if that makes sense. Go for a mild approach with a tough leather jacket on the outside. Like Faith No More said, its a small victory I guess.
I also just added this beer to this Next Glass owned database. I guess people don't use this one much in the Midwest either these days. You're welcome for the review and the add though. Pretty average beer for my scoring scores.
