Tasted by a half pint at the Devonshire Cat, Sheffield, on 16/04/2007. Served by a sparkler-fitted hand pump.
A: bright dark-amber hue with chestnutty glows; an off-white creamy head comes with good retention, on top of low carbonation. Very elegant presentation.
S: burnt brown sugar and/or cara-malts dominate the aroma, backed by a slightly sticky note as in nut-syrup with a faint trace of roastiness & restrained lemony fruitiness. Simplistic, slightly sweet, but still nice.
T: bitter-sweet malts upfront are balanced by deep-running nutty bitterness and plum preserve, with a slowly deepening hop bitterness at the back. Decent, but nothing special here.
M&D: quite softly carbonated and fresh on the texture, this is a med-bodied malty bitter with a quite nice overall balance b/w nutty sweetness and hop bitterness overall.
