Dark and full-bodied, this is our interpretation of the classic English Porter style. Made with nine varieties of malt and assertively hopped, our porter is packed with flavor. Strong coffee and chocolate tones create a special brew for those advancing on the path of fine beer appreciation.

20oz serving in a tulip stout. At the brewery in downtown Madison.
Appearance: Black, stout level dark. Thin tan head with lots of persistent thick sheets of lacing.
Smell: Roasted malt with some definite coffee and dark chocolate notes.
Taste: Tastes much like it smells, but with some additional bitterness at the finish (I'm thinking Fuggle hops).
Mouthfeel: Very light carbonation, sticky on the teeth, a bit thin.
Overall / Drinkability. Great looking beer, smells good, tastes good, but disappointing in mouth feel for a Porter. Went well with fish and chips and was easily drinkable,, but one is enough.

Poured from the beer engine into a pint glass. Pours pitch black with a fluffy light brown head. Smells of coffee and chocolate. Tastes of coffee with creamy chocolate and just a hint of fruit. Beer is light bodied and easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, a very good beer.

draught
This is a cask conditioned, beer engine pulled beer.
Medium, tan head. Extremely dark brown, and looks thick. A tiny bit of dark auburn at the bottom of glass. Medium level of darkly roasted grains, make up the smell. Nearly charred grain flavor, but without harshness. Medium bodied. Moderate lasting finish of the deeply roasted malt.

Had on tap. Just a nice, full and earthy porter. Pour a full black with some dirt brown foam. Smell is roasty and earthy. Taste is centered around earthy malts with accents of coffee, dark chocolate and maybe some licorice. Full body to complement dark tones

Probably my go-to beer at Great Dane whenever I find myself there. Dark cola brown body, one finger offwhite head, good retention, bits of lacing; with a smell of toasted grain, slight smoke, milk chocolate and a little earth. Flavour follows; smooth milk chocolate, touch of smoke and slightly burnt malt, a bit of earthy chocolate on the backend. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, good carbonation, nice reasonably creaminess, not difficult to drink. Packs a good amount of flavour overall, always easy to drink.

Pours a thick, opaque black with a persistent two-finger mahogany head with lots of lacing. Pours at a warmer, cellar temperature to bring out the flavor. Smell is lacking, subtle scents of Smokey coffee and dark chocolate.
Taste is powerful, bittersweet dark chocolate, smokey dark roast coffee, sweetness eminates from the chocolate notes. Feel is absolutely perfect, smooth and a little creamy, the head adds more texture, like a frothy milkshake.
Overall a solid Porter. Save this for dessert and pair it with a chocolate malt or cake.
