Had this 'Mock' Bock style beer at the pub in Louisville. Served chilled in a Nonic.
A - Dark mahogany w/ similar to a Dopplebock's thin tan 1/2 head. The retention isn't there, but the head does revive w/ a swirl and light passes through the dark caramel colored liquid.
S - Buttery w/ toffee sweet cream notes very much like a bock, yet a bit more fruit like plum in the nose.
M - Creamy sweet and gently spiced w/ pine and finishes smooth w/ a malty note that is slightly dry. There are sweet notes w/ a hint of astringency and med full effervescence.
T - Very toffee-like flavors and does well to imitate the bock caramel sweetness w/ a nice herbal and pine spice in the hop flavor. The malts hold for a while, but the fullness doesn't last as long into the finish as you might expect from a Doppelbock.
Nice dry toasty taste but as the pint gets to 1/4 full the diacetyl flavor becomes apparent and almost distracting save for
the nice spice elements.
D - A nice simulation of a Dopplebock even if not a true bock, better flavor than most large scale bocks I have had and very drinkable. This big beer is tasty and very full of malt, but still balanced for the style. A real tasty beer that I was skeptical of due to the name overall very nice and I would return to this again.
