I stopped into Cafe Frape in Maastricht with my daughter Caitlin on 17SEP18. The owner, Peter, suggested we try this kegged offering, a Scotch Ale that had oak whiskey barrel chips steeped in it. A 0.25l glass was €3.75.
It was served in a small, thistle-tulip type glass. It was a rich, deep garnet-amber color, with a full, creamy beige head, with excellent lacing. Had a mild nose, with some light smoke evident. Body was medium, with a decent feel overall.
Flavor had lots of malt, caramel, toffee, and a bit more of a smoky, peaty character. Whiskey notes were evident, though mostly just lingering in the background, along with a hint of light, floral hopping. A solid brew to lead off with at my favorite Maastricht pub. Prosit!
