January 2012: 750 ml corked bottle, new at Vinmonopolet, as Diabolici, "brewed in BeNeLux for Anthony Martin". Note that it is brewed FOR them, and not BY them, so who the actual brewers are, remains to be investigated. ABV is 8%. This is closer to a tripel, and definitely not a dubbel. Golden colour, huge white head. Moderately spicy aroma, maybe somewhat less sweetish than your average tripel. The flavour is distinctly spicy, with some kandij sugar and a little caramel, but not too sweet. The alcohol is noticeable, but not overwhelming. A quite decent Belgian, but isn’t the idea of another "diabolic" beer name a bit worn out now?

Reminds me of rince cochon. Very sugary, out of balance. Not worth it. This ale shows that Belgium knows how to make unbalanced beers. It's also a bit boozy

Clear golden color with frothy off-white head. Aroma is sugary with some floral, slightly fruity yeast esters. Taste follows with sweet malt, candi sugar, yeast notes, hay, earthy notes, more balanced on the finish by some light bitterness. Medium body, medium plus carbonation. A bit astringent but overall it's a correct beer.

Drank in its own glass, golden colour, big off white head. Aroma is very faint, some caramel and fruits. Creamy plate. Malty taste, caramel, ripe fruits, alcohol is noticeable. Good, but not really so especial.

Review according to BJCP2008 guidelines (style 18D). Bottle 75 cl - Batch nº ? AROMA: slight esters present (pear) with some solventy aromas. no discernible floral hop aromas. light to very low malt aroma. APPEARANCE: medium gold color, very clear. white head with good retention and lacing. foam a bit coarse. TASTE: sweet malty flavour with a very slight note of pears. Medium bitterness that lingers in the aftertaste. finishes a bit dry. PALATE: high carbonation with medium body. slight alcohol warmth. Effeverscent with no astringency and no solvent character. OVERALL: an average bulk belgian strong ale, that could be better in the aroma and flavour.

750ml corked bottle. Posh unfooted Diabolici Chalice glass. Bright gold color, clear appearance. White foam creates close, fairly good retention & thin crown. Wide lacing rings are left. Belgian yeast, candy, molasses & ripe fruit to the nose as well as herbal, spiced hints & sour almond on the back. Malts, ripe fruit - golden apple, pear & lychis- & warming alcohol at first sip. Medium to full body. Moderate carbonation. Dense texture, spicy & spiced mouthfeel. Intense fruity flavors & herbal bitterness in the middle while ABV reaches the edge of becoming harsh. Sweet/bitter finish. Fruity aftertaste rounded by woody notes.
