I was assured that this was the brewpubs beer that "everyone" loves and it remains on the menu due to popular demand.

A: It had a distinctive copper color with a bone white head that produced a light lacing.

S: There was a hint of sweet fruity malts that were immediately overwhelmed by the aroma of grassy hops. The waitress confirmed what my buddy suspected...this brew is dry hopped to ensure a full frontal hop assault on the senses.

T: There was a light malty front followed by and consumed by the biting bitterness of hops. The hoppy bitterness lingered leaving a bitter aftertaste that quickly turned and remained sour.

M: Light, watery body with a lingering bitter aftertaste.

D: Low ABV and high IBU with a one dimensional character make this a one and out beer for me.

I’m assuming this is an imperial IPA though no one at Atomic could confirm the ABV. Regardless, this beer bears no resemblance to an IPA at all, imperial or otherwise. The taste is of tealeaf not unlike the Atomic special bitter, though this time it’s tea with lemon and sugar. There’s not a hint of hop aroma to be found, just a vague vegetative quality that belongs in a salad but has no place in a beer. Though Atomic doesn’t filter their beer, IP2A is clear gold and light on suds. As an ESB or pale ale, it would rate as funky. But as an IPA it is truly tragic. Pass.
