I wasn't expecting a beer this sweet. It's not entirely cloying, but a wall of residual sugars suggest low attenuation. Atomic Town evokes a vague molasses/treacle aroma from a body of walnut-cola brown and shows an eclipsed rim of head. It is undercarbonated beyond what most browns are.
What's interesting about this Atomic beer is that after the sweetness passes, a more robust malty complexity arrives with a mix of hop spice. The mid-palate and finish are actually quite fascinating, though they arrive too late to redeem a beer of such suppressed vitality. If you appreciate a sweet beer now and again, this one might be worth your while. Bump the rating up a notch if you can excuse the unintentionally placid body as "traditional."
