Thagaard is named after Sandit Commissioner Laurits Thagaard, who planted the first birch trees in what is now National Park Thy. In early summer we pick the fresh birch leaves that make up a vital ingredient in this delicious beer. Together with citrus aroma from specially selected grannelle from trees close to Nors Sø, this beer delivers a particularly friendly and sensational taste experience.
Thagaard has a very special freshness, which makes this beer especially suitable for accompanying dishes with light meat and fresh salads.

Copenhagen 4/3 2017. 50 cl bottle from Føtex. Another New Nordic feature from Thisted. A lot of local green things on the label which they have put into this brew without hops. Makes you wonder if hops are not Nordic for some reason?
Pours slightly hazy pale yellow with very bubbly white head which disappears almos immediately. Leaving what looks mostly like a urine sample.
Aroma is quite herbal. Resin, citrus, pine, spruce and a little sugary and malty.
Medium carbonation and watery palate.
Flavor is not very intense. Medium sweet followed by very light sourness. Aftertaste is herbal sweet and fairly short and thin.
Pretty thin herbal fellow. And Birch is a poor substitute for hops.

Shared 500 ml bottle at local tasting. Golden colour. Nice aroma and flavour of birch leaves and sprucetips, also hints of pine. Interesting, easy drinking and very good beer.

Enjoyed on October 1, 2018. Poured from bottle (flaske) #23034, Aging 2017. Look was a medium amber color, and foam left a head of 1 finger. Aroma was light pine and citrus. Taste agreed with the smell which was a nice malty-ness and a pine (birch) followed with light citrus notes. Feel was light and enjoyable. Overall an excellent beer using a unique ingredient.
