I love a pumpkin beer that proudly lists the source of its main ingredient. In this case, Moses Farms, NY, a not too distant 20 miles or so from the brewpub proper. Anyhow, pours a deep copper with a sizable beige head that quiets to a session lasting film. Spicy woodsy pear and pepper, squash, white bread, blackcurrant, and lemon. Vanilla, ginger, and citrus compliment a flavor otherwise dominated by pumpkin. Maltiness gives off an impression of a dark pumpernickel with apple or pumpkin butter spread. Acute and clean minerality pairs with an overt thinner, body. Not your Momma's rich pumpkin pie, but has the finish of a dollop of whipped cream nevertheless. Overall impression is an English Pale Ale featuring a fruit-base fermentable.
