This was poured into a mug.
The appearance was a sturdy burnt amber almost brown color with an ever so slight sort of transparency about it. Carbonation could be seen rising ever so slightly to fill a finger's worth of white foamy head that slid off at a mild pace. Some lace, somewhat strewn about.
The aroma had some sweet wood with a light floral to semi-spicy melding of that rye coming about to blend finely. Some caramel/toffee malt backbone slides in subtly.
The flavor was a fair blend of the wood and the rye, sweet yet dry and a spiciness coming about fairly nice. Semi-smooth aftertaste of the rye and wood.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine, somewhat low. ABV felt appropriate. Nice quick semi-spicy sort of rye-like finish.
Overall, I liked this one for me, but was that really "Applewood?" And well, that's a pretty good idea for Applewood and rye to be executed in a beer, but to no avail, I didn't really see the "porter" qualities in this.
