Poured into a pint glass at the brewery in Walloomsac. Pours light brown with two fingers of head; rapidly recedes. Tastes of sweet caramel with complementary notes of smooth malt. Sweeter side of a marzen. A bit of a malt bomb but still pretty good.

Edited from my review in 2013. That rating was a 3.25. I know tastes change, so I want to update my rating higher. Could the way Brown’s Brewing creates the Oktoberfest change since 2013? Absolutely. So I’m updating my rating. I really love this beer. The copper color, malt flavor of this 2020 lager is well balanced, dry finish.

Poured into a ridiculously giant beer stein, the beer is a deep, dark, auburn coloring highlighted with some ruby tones. The beer starts with a large, frothy, big bubbled, off-white head of around an inch and a half, but quickly settles into a film, leaving little to no trace along the glass as it recedes. Aromas are a deep, caramel and smokey maltiness that is smooth and well blended, with some nutty and chocolate characteristics, too. Smells supersweet and delicious. Flavors have a roasted feel all around, with a nutty and deeply sugar-sweet malt backbone. The roast/char and smoke character do a very good job of keeping all of the sweet flavors from becoming cloying/overpowering. The aftertaste is a slick caramel and nut blend, with a clean and smooth finish. Delicious. Good representation of the style.
