A: Stopped in around the happy hour time on a Friday, the place was hopping. Mostly a non-college age crowd, 25 and older although I did not ask anyone their age. A decent amount of outdoor seating and several seats at the 'outdoor' bar (which is just an extension of the indoor bar but outside)

Q: Beers taste as they ought too, no dirty taps or anything.

Ser: I usually sit at the bar and the bartenders are pretty prompt, although slower obviously at happy hour when it is crowded, but that is to be expected.

Sel: Well, they have 20 beers on tap but not all are craft brews. When I was there they had some GL Lake Erie Monster, Troegs, Terrapin, Weyerbacher, Sierra Nevada, Stoudts, Lagunitas, Church Brew Works...and more..and they have the obvious Miller Light, Guiness, Hoegaarden, Dos Equis, Yeungling. It is a pretty decent varient and they do change it up regularly.

F: Obviously there is Mexican food here. I have not really had any of the entrees, usually just some appetizers of nachos, quesedillas...etc which have always been good.

A decent place to stop. Can be really busy for happy hour!

I've been here a few times with my friends.

Everytime I have come to this place it is quite crowded. Its hard to find parking, and the place seems small and dark on the inside. The atmosphere is-of course-mexican in style. Its similar to what Chi Chi's once was and Don Pablo's.

They always have a nice rotating tap list and the beer is always fresh. Prices are similar to other establishments in the area. The taps are mostly craft beer-with at least 15 or 16 to choose from at any given time. They have Dos Equis, and plenty of Margaritas for those that aren't into beer.

Food is typical for a Mexican chain restaurant. Its pretty good overall. Expect nachos, quesedillas, and fajitas. The servers are friendly and somewhat knowledgeable about beer.

For me the big draw to this place is that my friends really like it. Its a nice place to get together with beer drinking and non-beer drinking friends and family-but there is still a really nice tap list to choose from. I prefer this one much to Mad Mex Robinson. Did I mention they have great happy hour specials?

My stated intent is to eventually hit all of the Mad Mexs in the chain. It was quite the ride, North on the 12A bus and I had to get off at Browns Road and walk north to just below McIntyre Road. I entered on the south side of the building and just after passing the Skull/Diadelos Muertos - the medium vestibule, the m.d.s. was right there. To the center was the bar area and to the right was the restaurant area. Immediately past the entry, the Salvador Dali-designed zigzag angular began. Illuminated red plastic chili peppers and red lamp Mason jars hung from the rough wood overhead. Garage doors along the North side of the building would open during seasonal weather. The right side was a sea of standard tables that actually wrapped around on the left and was separated from the bar area by a line of booths with spiky plants (not cacti) along its short wall. The lavs were on the left, down a recessed pathway past a glassed in cabinet of logo items. Garage doors along the North side of the building would open during seasonal weather. Kevin Carey once remarked that he had read a newspaper wag that characterized PGH as "having an insatiable appetite for Mexican food, what with the plethora of Qdobas". Keep your Q's! I'm drinkin' at Mad Mex! I even ran into an undergrad classmate of mine, Johnny Mac, who was working as a server. Yes, I do know everybody.

A beer cooler was in the Northwest corner, but draft is where it's at!

Beers: 39 BT, 9 BMC, 20 taps, Dos Equis, Miller Lite, Blue Moon, Hoegaarden, and Guinness as the odd ones out.

Lunch was a smoked chicken burrito and a side salad.

Mad Mex in the North Hills is a nice stop/break if you are down by the Ross Park (XMas shopping)

A--They have opened an outside area which sure beats the dark and gloomy interior of the place. DO NOT do a blind date here, you will have no clue what they look like while there.

Q--Beer is fresh for the most part from what I remember and they have a great Tequila list.

S--Herein lies the problem with THIS location. I dont know if its the owner, management or what, but it has a terrible vibe. It is not to say that I have had bad servers all the time, I have not, but management/bartenders are weak. One particular woman there eminates misery and it has been too often on display. If I was her boss, she would have fired long ago. When I am spending good money, treat me right, not like you are better than me or as if you have better things to do.

S--Tap list is solid, a little too hoppy for my liking normally but oh well, sometimes you find a nice surprise.

F-Mad Mex has very good food. Black beenie chicken quesidilla is solid, as it the wings.

This is my favorite watering hole in the Pittsburgh area. The draft selection is updated every week and happy hour (5-7) is a great deal - half-off all drafts. The draft selection is fairly wide with something for just about everyone...they even stroke the Miller Lite drinkers by listing that swill as "Miller Lite Triple Hops Brewed Pilsner" on the draft list.

The managers and bartenders know their beer and are willing to give free samples. It also helps that it's about a mile from my house. :-)

Seriously though...great staff, good electic mexican food with a lot of veggie and vegan options, and good beers. What more do you need?

Atmosphere is fantastic, this is a classy place.

Selection is pretty poor. They do have some craft bottles and taps, but it's very few and the tap choices seem arbitrary. 2-4 per style in bottles over about 6 styles.

Service was not very helpful as far as beer was concerned.

Food was pretty damn good. Had a chicken strip wrap.

Prices are ridiculous. 4 bucks for a yuengling draft and bottle. Crafts, which are usually pretty high around here, were even more crazy at Mad Mex. The food was oddly enough pretty reasonable.

I wouldn't go out of my way to go back here.

I am a local of the Pittsburgh area and this place is one of my favorite places to go in the North Hills. The atmosphere is great. A happy hour between 5 & 7 pm, half off on drafts and wings. Best to get here before 6 pm or you might not get a seat by the bar.
The bar area holds about 20 patrons. The rest of the building is set up for dinning.

The bar has about 20 taps running, mostly craft brews from around the country with a couple of imports. Selection changes all the time, so its never the same old thing.
Bottle selection is very nice, but a bit pricey.

I find the service to be excellent, The bartenders have a good knowledge of what products are being sold and make good suggests. They even offer small samples of beer before you buy.

The food is very good, I enjoy the BBQ wings when I just want something light to eat. Bigger meals, I like the Steak Fajita Burrita the best. A Burrito with grilled marinated steak , peppers and onions,. very filling.

Best to come during the happy hour for your money.

Stopped in here while staying at a friends house in North Hills. We weren't at this place too long, but I was impressed. We had completely forgotten to bring any beer with us, so we're looking for any place that's open just to get some brews. We were prepared to swill even (well, as low as Yueunling Lager). Our friend recommended this place so we went and checked it out. It's a nice little Mexican themed resturant, with about 20 taps. On tap we're a few Victory's, Flying Dog, DFH, etc.... and the bottles we managed to pick up were Victory V12 (hell yeah!) and Shakespeare Stout. This is a nice place if you're in the North Hills area.
