I'm a local and tried this place a few times years ago and just gave them another chance last night for a benefit. I'm still greatly disappointed with their beers.
They lack body and many, especially the hoppy ones, are close to tasteless.
Many people in town have commented over the years that they have too many selections and should concentrate on a few quality beers instead. In short, they may need a new brewer to revamp the beer offered.
Truly I would like this place to succeed, but I feel I'm not the only one in town to comment on the sub-par beer and wish they would make some serious changes. The service and atmosphere are both good. They just need better beer.

Another small Virginia brewery stuck in an odd place in a small town. This brewery seems to be located in an old store front, almost like a laundromat or such. A small parking lot, which can have a food truck taking up space. An unusually large selection of beers, but I was somewhat disappointed with their ability to brew to style or otherwise create a beer that tasted great (regardless of your opinion of style and the need to align with those style guidelines). Found the service friendly, but the bartender working during our visit had only a cursory knowledge of the beer.

We decided to swing by here a few weeks ago on a trip to another Harrisonburg brewery. The place looks like a renovated convenience store, but was redone well and utilized the available space perfectly. They also, apparently, allow locals to come in a brew a beer right smack dab in the center of the place, then return in a week or two and try out the results. Kind of a cool idea IMO.
They also had 26 beers on tap on our visit and we did a flight consisting of every single one. Good thing there was 3 of us to work on this mammoth task. Overall, there were 2-3 beers representing all the major brewing styles employed today and most were actually pretty solid. There was maybe 2-3 total duds we all took a sip of and moved on- the rest we happily finished and commended the bar staff on.
I can see myself stopping by here many more times when I'm in the 540 simply because the tap list probably rotates quicker than most and they are always trying new things. Pretty cool place. Don't let the old 7-11 curb appeal scare you off. Go in and have a flight or three.

I had never heard of this place, but was passing through on a day of visiting breweries in the Shenandoah Valley. Quaint place, friendly staff, interesting and different beer (but still very good).

Stopped into Queen City Brewing today on the way through town. At first glance it looked to be just a Home Brew store. There is a small bar hidden behind the brewing hardware. Glad I went in. Both beers were great . Had the Dunkelweizen and then the Oktoberfest Dark. Price is a great value. For the price of one beer in some other brew pubs you will receive 2 at Queen City Brewing. I will make sure I schedule a return visit.

Queen City Brewing is a small scale brew operation in Staunton, VA. The place sells its own mix and match 6 packs, growlers, wine, and homemade soda. The brewery does not distribute so any Queen City beer you want, you have to buy from the brewery. The specialty of the place is that it offers patrons the chance to brew their own beer or vint their own wine. A unique feature I must say. However, the place is fairly small and doesn't serve food, so don't come expecting a long brewery walking tour followed by beers on a patio or anything.
Atmosphere: I've found that the atmosphere at Queen City is always laid back and friendly. There is usualy one or two guys working there and will let you sample the beers they have on tap. The brewery looks like its an old 7-11 building but the inside has been gutted out and brew equipment is smack dab in the center of the place.
Quality: The quality of the beer is fine. I haven't had a bad beer experience there yet. They also have wines that are nice and sweet with lower alcohol content that I find are nice after dinner wines.
Service: There is no food here, so the service of helping people is the only thing I can rate. I found the people working at Queen City to be very helpful and nice. I wanted to buy just a growler for decotation purposes, and the gentleman who helped me was very accomidating.
Selection: For such a small brew place, the selection is actually quite large. However, because they are small, I've noticed that some beers tend to come and go. So while they keep adding new beers to their selection, the older ones might be non-existant now.
Food: No food is served. Unless you count the bag of chips that a guy working there might be eating.
Value: Overall I'd rate the value at inexpensive. Brewing your own beer their is probably cheaper than buying a keg of beer. Their mix and match six packs are alos $6-8 and the wine is also fairly cheap. A pretty good bargin overall.
Overall: Overall Queen City is a small scale operation that produces some decent beer. The place doesnt serve food, but does have the unique feature of allowing a patron to brew their own beer. Every time I'm in Staunton I make a point to swing by and grab a six pack or two of whatever is new. If you're ever in Staunton, I recommend checking out the only brewery in town and grabing a mix and match sixer. And the only place to buy Queen City is at the brewery.
Favorite Beers: Summer Cream and Bavarian Bock (there is also one or two that I can't recall right now, but may fill in later).

A brewery in my hometown, of course I have been there and I am happy to write this review.
This is the first brewery we have had in Staunton since the horrible days of prohibition. While quite a small scale brewery, they always have at least 12 beers on tap, ready for growlers, party pigs, and of course bottles.
Queen City was the first place I have seen offer party pigs and I really wish they would catch on at other places. I was super skeptical at how the beer would last and taste coming out of a plastic self tapping keg, but the last beer tasted ever bit as good as the first. It always poured an awesome head as well.
Now for the beer. The beer is always fresh and always delicous. The brewers make sure to include different styles of beers to fit the tastes of just about anyone. I have sampled most of the continual line they have and everything has been great respresentation of each style.
They have a brew your own deal as well as a vint your own wine service as well. You can also special request beers to be made from a list of about 100 beers, you do have to buy at least a case but hey, why not?
The prices are definitely reasonable as well, I recently purchased their Black Rabbit Stout (great beer) in a 2.25gal party pig for $24.99. Thats about a dollar per beer, good beer, ontap.
The guy's there are super friendly and if you tell them you are knew to the business they give you a walk around tour and samples.

Stumbled upon this place on a trip to Staunton.
Small, family owned establishement that specializes in patrons brewing their own beer from about 50 different recipes. Brewers return in about three weeks to bottle the beer.
I didn't have time to brew my own, but I did try samples of many of the Queen City brewed beer. I liked them all!
My favorites were the Imperial Stout and the Belgian Triple Ale. They were both very good, especially fresh from the kegs. The brewery doesn't sell their beer outside of the brewery, so you have to go there to purchase it. But it is worth the trip if you are in the Staunton area. Mix and match six packs were about $7.50. I think that was a good bargain.
Queen City also has a very good Barley Wine for sale. It has already been aged for six months in their cellar. I bought a six pack and tried two. I'm going to put the rest away for several months to age. It was a little pricey at $12.99 a six pack, but I guess for a limited specialty brew that was not out of line.
The brewpub is not a sit down and drink pub. You can buy the bottled beer but cannot order a glass to drink and they don't sell food. So if you are looking for a pub to sit down and eat this is not your place.
However, the next time I am in the area I am going to make time to brew my own beer.
I'd recommend anyone in that area to stop by and try the beer.
