Bottle conditioned (500ml bottle), best before the end of April 2011. Drank and reviewed during a random British Beer Tasting Evening at my house.

Poured into an 'Abbot Ale' pint glass tankard: Murky ruby red with no head at all.

The smell and taste are very intertwined, sweet malts, nutmeg, cinamon and raisins, strange.

Poor carbonisation, almost flat and likeless, stale like.

Very disappointed to be honest.

Coming in a 500ml brown bottle, bottle-conditioned. Obtained from the soon-to-be-closed Pitfield Beer Shop. BBE OCT 08. Served cool in a broad-rimmed goblet.

A: pours a very dark tawny, brownish hue, with absolutely no beer head no matter how hard I've tried... leaving just a bubbly head on top of a static body.
S: lovely light chocolatey note on top of light smokey malts, roasted nuts/chestnuts, added with a faint hint of fruity hops (can't identify which kind). Light, simple, and pleasant!
T&M: ultra-smooth and lightly alc.-warmish, lightly-roasted maltiness descends on the palate upfront, gradually leading towards a mildly bitter-sweet mid-flavour of more crystal and dark malts, a touch of charred-wood, and a medium-lingering, herbal bitterness... Smooth and light on the mouthfeel throughout, finished rather clean~~
D: overall it seems in need of a kick on the butt, but the beer as it is now is nothing short of a quality, albeit quiet, brew. Somethow the bottle-conditioning yeasts are pretty subdued, adding not much more body or liveliness to the bottled beer. In fact after pouring, almost not a single bit of yeast is detected in the bottle, and all find its way in microscopic form into my glass... Maybe it's too early to tell the potential of this bottle-conditioned beer, but I certainly believe the cask-conditioned version could be much more balanced in terms of body and flavour.

BBE Jun 06. Litle and fine lasting head and a dark brown beercollor going to black. Nose is a lot of sweet fruits&vegetables together with good roasty, smoked and caramellic maltyness and a pineapple like arome. Taste is strong bitter and burnt and maltsugar sweet. Overall very plesant taste that is enjoyable if you like it heavy bitter and burnt. Low carbonisation level fits brew. Well drinkable and enjoyable beer.
