Sample at the brewpub. Jet black color with medium and frothy khaki head. Thin, spotty lacing. Roasted coffee aroma, with hints of malt in the background. On the thin side and very smooth-bodied. Coffee and malt flavors are there but not very pronounced. The finish is dry and mildly bitter with a coffee aftertaste. Not bad, but could definitely use some more flavor and maybe a higher ABV.

Served in 5 ounce sampler. Jet black with a thick dense beige head. Aroma is of roasted coffee and chocolate. Mouthfeel is extremely smooth. Taste is very dry roasted malts mixed with chocolate, and it lingers with a coffeish aftertaste. This is a nice solid stout that I could drink a few of.

A very deep, dark colored beer with a thick, mocha-colored head. The nose gives off aromas of chocolate and coffee. The mouthfeel is light for a stout, but this is a minor point. The coffee flavor lingers at the finish, which is quite pleasant and something that I usually enjoy in a stout.

Served in a pint glass at Red Star, on a slight nitrogen blend. The color was black, with a nice creamy beige head. The smell was a typical roasted malt. The taste was a very nice dry roasted malt/hop blend, and the nitro didn't kill this taste at all. Mouthfeel is smooth. As for drinkability, I could definitely have quite a few of these.
Another fine offering from Red Star. Fortunately, they know how to use nitro just right; just enough to give a bit of extra body, but not too much to kill the flavors inside. Excellent, and one I'll definitely have again.

Served with an excellent tan nitro head atop a very dark body with mahogany highlights around the edges. Looks similar to the Imperial except for the head color. The aroma is of sweet malt and some roasted malt with a hint of coffee. Strong roasted flavors are wrapped in hints of chocolate. A slight sweetness is followed by good hop bitterness. The dry finish is marked by raosted notes and a very nice bitterness. The mouthfeel is smooth with minimal mouthfeel, nice and light like a good Irish stout. Espresso notes in the aftertaste. The drinkability is very good. Once again, a very good stout from Jeff at Red Star.

This Stout is Better than Guinness! It's kind of a cross between a Guinness and a Murphy's. Not as roasty and bitey as Guinness, and not as wussy as a Murphy's.
It's deep black in color, light bodied, cold coffee-roast character, and very smooth.
Served on nitrogen.
