Straight from the brewery. Poured out a dark brown with a short tan head. A nice rye beer if there ever were one. Much much better than other domestic rye brews I've sampled, but not quite up to snuff with the Germans. It's well balanced and the rye flavor is great. Another good batch of brew from Magic Hat.

The beer is a deep reddish brown, with a thinnish ivory head. Great head retention, lasting through the pint, with some lacing.
Aroma is malty, with ambitious grainy, rough-edged rye, plus some caramel malt. Perhaps a pinch of crystal malt. Moderate esters, mostly pear, with a hint of diacetyl. Assertive hopping, herbal and a bit grassy, in the signature Magic Hat style. Smells wonderfully balanced.
The beer is full flavored and well done. Solid rye flavor, lending a coarse graininess, supported by pale and caramel malts. Some woodiness, pear, and a bit of diacetyl butteryness. Hops come through towards the middle, providing an herbal grassy flavor, finishing the beer with moderate, pleasant bitterness. The finish is slightly dry, with mild grainy rye coarseness coming through again. Mild small bubbled carbonation, with a medium body.
I thought this was better than a lot of the Magic Hat regular brews. Flavor is very interesting and pretty complex. It's a shame it's only an experimental beer. I'd love to see this as a 22oz seasonal or something like that.
