Notes: A liquid compilation of the spicy, citrusy flavors of Delta hops backed by a mildly sweet malt base.

A: slight haze; deep gold in color; a 1+ finger ivory head that receded slowly to a thin cap; nice lacing;

S: somewhat restrained; what's there is earthy first, then tropical fruit - mainly mango;

T: earthy, then mostly catty from start to finish; mild to moderate bitterness at the end;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish;

O: I don't particularly care for the aroma and flavor combinations, but this is a solidly made IPA:

12 oz bottle served in a lager glass.
Hazy golden body topped with a semi-durable white head with very good lacing.
This single male/single hop IPA features the aroma and flavor of Delta hops. It's about average in bitterness and moderately strong for style, with no shortage of hop flavor. While the aroma has some skunkiness, this is diminished to a totally acceptable level in the fruity-skunky-herbal flavor.

O: a worthy introduction to this hop variety.

A white one finger head with fair retention. The head is frothy and creamy and left no lacing on the glass. The beer is a golden amber color with good clarity and decent amount of carbonation.

N: Resin, toasted malt, yeast, floral, perfume and a touch of skunk.

T. Heavy pine resin, and perfume with floral, yeast, bread, caramel, toasted malt, and some skunk.

M: Carbonated, slightly astringent, medium light body, and crisp.

O: Just not an IPA I would desire to drink again. The beer is off to me. I have had a lot of IPA's, PA's, and DIPA's and this beer is just not tasty.

Like most of us here I didn't just decide to by "Smash Hits" maybe its name means me fell as if I'm a longboarder cruising around on one of the least convenient forms of transportation there are and drinking smashing! beer.... Long Story short I got this in a variety pack and it was not impressive.

Golden color. Nice off-white lasting head. Indistinct smell or bouquet. Piney taste, very astringent on the palate. Less than memorable flavor, rather common in fact. Not an IPA I would buy again, but any IPA is worth a try. A little too light in flavor for my liking as I prefer a heavier bolder and sweeter IPA.

So I guess this is getting high reviews since its like a hopped up pilsner (IPA)?

Not bad balanced malt to hops with little pils skunk and a good dose of hops.

Will I get it again? Probably not but worth the $1.75 tick.

From the 12 fl. oz April 2016 bottle. Sampled on June 24, 2016.

Orange golden-yellow pour. Quick lasting white head. Good clarity.

Magic Hat yeast is the first aromatic sensation with a fruity hop note over the toasted bread.

Medium or slightly heavier body.

Big bitterness that is not as fruity as the aroma suggests. More of a traditional IPA than one of those ultra-hopped up Vermont beers.

5/6....pours clear gold, bright, with light white foam. Pale citrus nose, very faint. Slightly floral. Sharp pils taste with a black pepper bite. Lemon backed. Like a hoppy pils. Smooth and simple but tasty.

I used to like Magic Hat back in the day, and my brother in law still holds a torch for them, but it was with some trepidation that I picked up their IPA mixed twelver. I just feel like they've been living off their rep for years and the quality had not kept pace with the industry. Let's put that theory to the test. Pale golden body with minimal head and musty graininess mixing with the basic hop flavors in the nose. I hate being right all the time...

A nice kick of sharp lemon starts this off decently but it kind of founders into murky, grainy wateriness after that. The aftertaste is properly bitter but not in a good way; more like astringent sawdust than pleasing pine and grapefruit. Texture is okayas the finish is crisp adter a rough start, but can't put enough lipstick on this pig.

This beer pours a slightly hazy golden yellow with a one finger off white head. Retention is minimal, but there are many fantastic looking webs of lacing. Smell is very bland. Crackery malts, hop spiciness and alcohol are all present. Taste is the same but worse. Unnecessarily bitter. Worse tasting than PBR. I'm going to stop this review right here and beg anyone who may be reading this to please not waste your money on this beer. It is absolutely atrocious. Good god what a mess.

Magic Hat's IPA and it was pretty smashing...

Seriously, I did enjoy this offering from MH. This particular beer is not as good as other IPAs I have had, but for itself I did like downing the couple I had from the variety pack. Good dark amber coloration with hints of orange, a weak head, but good lacing down the glass. There's a great mix of citrus and hops in the nose and you can taste just about the same. A bit too much carbonation for my taste at first, but it thankfully tapers off. Overall, not the best I've had from MH or the best IPA, but a good offering.

12 oz. bottle, no bottled on date. Acquired as part of the Magic Hat spring variety pack. A single malt and single hop IPA showcasing Goldpils Vienna Malt & Delta hops. Not a hop variety i am too familiar with.

Poured into a Duvel tulip snifter.

A - Crisp golden orange body, excellent clarity, with a good finger of frothy soapy white head that stays a while, leaving excellent webbed lacing. Appears aptly carbonated. Looks very nice.

S - A sweetened malt aroma, with some subtle grassy / citrus hop presence. Musty & bready. Simple, but what's here is nice.

T - A nice bitter, hoppy, bready IPA. Herbal, earthy, piney, resinous hops. Sweetened honeyed bready malts. Dirty, earthy, herbal, bitter finish. Notes of grapefruit, orange, lemongrass, pine. Slight coppery / minerally in the finish. This is actually a pretty decent IPA from Magic Hat.

M - Feel is smooth, crisp, clean, very easy-drinking, medium-light bodied stuff. Finishes dry & bitter, good hop presence here, very impressive for a Magic Hat offering, and especially for such a low modest 5.50% abv.

Overall, a nice IPA from Magic Hat.

Cloudy golden body with an off-white cap. Smell is super malty and sweet with some orange marmalade from the hops, resin, and toast. Taste is a little better with some peppery hops, but still way to malty. This is also reflected in the feel, no hop burst on the finish save the black pepper and malt crispness

In my last review, MH's HiPA, I stated that I was pretty much done with this mediocre brewery. Will this beer bring me back onto the wagon?

Pours a good head and a clear amber color.

Smell is fruity and citrusy hops - apricot and peach stand out. A gentle, mild hoppy presence, and the same goes for the malts.

Flavor is also pretty mild, and compared to most American IPAs these days (and compared to most of this brewery's offerings), the hops are pretty mellow. Almost no bitterness, gentle sweetness, slightly piney, dry finish.

It's an okay beer - a good one for a sampler because I'd never buy it on it's own. However, there's also nothing overtly offensive about it - ie., none of the wet cardboard flavor I've tasted in a lot of their beers. Not a game-changer, but enough to keep me from abandoning these guys altogether.

A: Pours a golden orange color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a small cap that leaves skimpy lacing

S: Starts off with some spicy and earthy hops and a bit of a woody tone from the malt. A little more on the English side, as it has a bit of a ringwood yeast undertone overall

T: Follows the nose. Starts off with the underlying ringwood yeast tone (not sure if it even actually uses ringwood or not) and some of the spicy hop notes. Goes into some earthy and woody notes before finishing with moderate bitterness and light sweetness

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O: The woody tones really dominate this beer and make me wonder what yeast this beer uses... Either way, this is definitely more along the lines of an English IPA than American. A decent drinker, but nothing to write home about

Not a bad beer. Weak hops if you like an IPA, but hoppy if you like a regular beer. Pours a slightly hazy gold and has good flavor. I guess I was expecting more IPA taste where it is more of an ale. A decent craft beer.
