On tap at the Buffalo Brewpub, poured from the tap a deep copper color with some burnt orange-like hue a tight formed near perfect looking 1/2 finger off white head that held good retention.Piney, citrusy, resiny hop in the nose pretty intense at first after a bit some lightly sweet malt emerges but never stands up to the hop profile. Not as complex as I was hoping on the palate quite resiny with a big grapefruit element up frotn the malt base is quite dry to go along with bitter hops makes for quite a dry drinking beer. Its decent could have been better but glad I tried it.

On-tap at the Blue Tusk

It had the funny Blue Tusk taste that I only seem to get from their taps, but beyond that there was a nice IPA that's not quite a an Imperial or double IPA. The hops were sweet with a grapefruit punch and perfume-y floral edge. But the bitter kick just wasn't big enough. Still a beer I really enjoyed drinking. Worth a try.

On-tap 4/27/07 at Track 84 in Warwick, RI, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light golden brown color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of pale hops and citrus with a touch of caramel.

T: A bitter floral hops flavor dominates the taste, but it’s quite pale and not very pleasant. There’s a little bit of citrus and caramel sweetness to provide some balance. The after-taste is slightly bitter.

M: Crisp but not very smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, very dry finish.

D: Not very tasty, doesn’t go down too easily, not too filling, certainly not one of the better beers I’ve had in the style. When I saw this beer on-tap, I thought “Hmm. ‘Imperial IPA.’ This must be the resurrection of Batch #375 (which I liked and hoped they would produce on a regular basis). I’ll try it later.” As I was drinking some other beers and reading the Yankee Brew News, I realized that the Wonder Beer Series was a separate line of beers and this was probably different. In my opinion, it is definitely not as good as Batch #375 was.

Growler filled at the brewery.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1/2" beige head over the clear orangey amber brew. Head recedes oh-so slowly, with heavy coating lace. Aroma is sweet malt and ample hoppiness. Taste starts with citrusy hoppiness over the light undercurrent of sweetness, which mellows through the middle, and closes with prickly bitterness and a light alcoholic warming. Mouthfeel is somewhat standard, and drinkability is easy for the style. Maybe a bit sedate for some for the style, but a nice edgy offering when you consider the source.
