Reviewed from a 12 oz. can in a variety pack

Appearance: Unfiltered translucent medium amber, very thin long-lasting frothy near-white head, thin rings of lacing
Aroma: Faint grapefruit, but strong malty backbone
Taste/Flavor: Oddly flavored. Very complex mix of wheat malts and hops. Hard to describe flavors
Mouthfeel: Medium-heavy feel, tingly carbonation. Finishes more smooth than dry, but somehow off-set by fruitiness
Overall: A strange blend of wheat beer and India pale ale. Available only occasionally in various Magic Hat variety/sampler paks. One of Magic Hat's "Reclusive Rarities" brewed whenever they feel like it.

12 oz can. "Selections from the vault"
A wheat ipa.

A very hazy, gold and orange color and a clumpy, frothy foam cap, 2" for a long time lots of bubbly clumps and thicl lacing leftover.

The nose has an obvious blend of tangy dry golden wheat, deep herbs and spice combo, peppery red fruits and light, grainy malted barley. The combo of wheat malt and earthy toned, but mostly sweet fruit based hops make for a very nice aromatic impact.

A light, crispy bite hits you first, which features the wheat malt kick and earthy bitter side of the hops. Tangy fruits, sour and dry notes from the wheat with tropical juice and herbal notes fly around later. The balance of wheat grain and earthy but fruity hops is spot-on. A well executed blend of two worlds.

This is easily one of my all time favorite Magic Hat elixers.

4 magic hat ipa’s side by side. 1 Electric Peel, 2 Encore (odd notion, wheat), 3 Lucky Kat, 4 HIPA. Encore is smooth. Wheat balances the sharp ipa flavors. Taste and Aroma are pleasant , but not very strong. Ok."

Poured into a pint glass from a bottle that I got out of their ipa variety pack. Can't find a date which is a pet peeve of mine.. Hazy copper color with an orange glow. Thin head with slight retention that slides down the glass and fails to lace up. Smell is like a pale ale. Not much going on in the nose. However the taste is a little better with the slightest hint of grapefruit. I think im getting some coriander as well but cant tell haha. As with most beers, imo, it gets better when it warms up. Moderate carbonation. I'm not getting as much of a dry finish that I was expecting (supposedly dry-hopped). It's an ok beer that I wouldn't mind drinking. Just not something I will spend money on. Btw i love the packaging these guys always have. Cheers!

12oz bottle poured into pilsner glass. Pours a cloudy orange color with very little head. Smell is malty with perhaps a hint of citrus. Nothing noteworthy to the feel; light bodied with not much substance. Very drinkable. Initially tastes sweet, then there's an emptiness followed by a very bitter aftertaste This was part of the Magic Hat sampler pack. I expected it to be my least favorite of the offerings and it was, but more enjoyable than I expected. I'm not a wheat beer fan, but I enjoyed this more than most wheat better. That being said, I enjoyed it less than most IPAs. (7.5)

Pours a cloudy amber, typical unfiltered wheat type brew. Smells malty, feels smooth and somewhat creamy in your mouth. Finishes with an expected hop tang but not real strong. The carbonation died out fairly quickly. Not bad, not great, a tasty summer sort of brew.

Appearance- cloudy copper color, thin head
Smell- malt, floral hops
Taste- hops, malt, mostly floral hops
Mouthfeel- medium bodied
Drinkability- I thought it was pretty good. I would drink it again.

Pours a hazy amber (with lots of particulates) producing 2+ fingers of frothy, eggshell, somewhat lasting?? head that settles to a thin surface cap & collar ring leaving short, streaky lacing. Aroma is cedar/juniper wood, citrus, some floral & faint tropical fruit hops & pepper forward, backed by toasted & caramel malts. Any wheat is weak & masked. Taste is juniper wood, pine needles, floral/herbal hops & pepper followed by semi-sweet caramel & toasted bready malt provide some hop sided balance. Considerably more bitter than sweet in the finish with a bitter dominant aftertaste. Wheat notes difficult for me to pick up. Mouthfeel is medium with moderate carbonation, slick, slightly juicy on the tongue, a little prickly & drawing in the aftertaste.

Bottle code corresponds to a bottling date of 11/01/14

Appearance - Pours out slightly and a golden orange color with an off-white finger width head. Fair retention results in a mostly broken layer of suds and a razor thin ring around the edge.

Smell - Aroma hits on wheat, spice and light citrus.

Taste - Wheaty malt character with hints of caramel and some light citrus zest in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Light to medium bodied with fair, bitey carbonation. Smooth, drinkable and lightly velvety.

Overall - Drinkable and somewhat enjoyable, but nothing truly amazing. Hops are subdued to the point that putting IPA in the name is an obvious marketing gimmick. Drinks closer to a fairly hopped American Pale Wheat more than anything.

This beer was pretty tasty and refreshing. I think I would enjoy it a lot out on a boat in June. It packs the body of a wheat beer, and mildly hopped. Not bad.

Clear Golden Pilsener color with a nice crunchy head and very nice lacing. Light grainy aroma with a faint hint of hops on the nose. Taste is malty, hoppy and slightly bitter with decent balance. This beer is everywhere but overall is pretty decent.

Pours hazed golden amber with a thin, fluffy lasting head. Trailing lace sticks.

The smell is of citrus with wheat tang. Not quite robust, but strong enough and pleasant enough to be enjoyable.

The taste is of wheat tang, a touch of honey-like sweetness with a citric/herbal hop bitter finish.

It is on the fuller-side of light-bodied and lighter-side of medium-bodied border. Medium carbonation.

An enjoyable hoppy American Pale Wheat Ale! Hoppy enough to fit in IPA category as well.

Pours a clouded amber, with a small white head that has good retention. Leaves plenty of lacing behind.

Sniffing from the bottle, all I could smell was pine. Probably the strongest pine scent from any hoppy brew I've tried yet. To stress, it's as if I had cut down a pine tree, and harvested all its pine resin and stuffed it up my nostrils. Ok, that's a bit of an exaggeration. In the glass I got more citrus and grapefruit from it.

Taste is fairly simple, two pronged attack, the grapefruit/pine in the hops, melded with a bit of sweetness, I assume from the malts, but I can't pick out what kind, the hops here are predominant flavors. Leave a bit of bitterness on the back of the tongue, doesn't last too long at all. It doesn't seem to carry any off flavors, aspirin, or zinc, etc.

This is actually pretty thick for an IPA, I would go with medium bodied, mild carbonation. Decent smoothness and drinkability, but a little too hoppy for my tastes.

Encore brewed by Magic Hat Brewing Company, with an ABV of 6.40% This brew pours out a cloudy amber color with a thick, white head. This is an unfiltered brew you can not see though it. The smell is rich with fruits and citrus and hit of malts. Encore has a bold taste with lot of flavor. You pick up on the citrus in this brew it is grapefruit, but it is not overpowering. The is also a nice hop taste at the end. This brew is a bold well balanced brew. There is nothing overpowering in this brew. The mouthfeel is nice and the brew has a clean finish. Overall I'm giving this brew a 4.25 out of 5.
I would buy this brew again. Encore brewed by Magic Hat Brewing Company was better than what I was expecting.

Encore - Magic Hat Brewing Company, part of the winter sampler pack. Poured from the bottle into a glass, Encore's got a two finger thick off-white head, nearly impenetrable lacing, and a hazy dark honey brown body.

Smells like grapefruit-y west coast hops, maybe a little bit of holiday spiced malts.

I taste a kind of cranberry and ginger mixture along with the hops. Its actually very nicely balanced.

Mouthfeel is pretty clean and crisp. No hops lingering.

Overall a 4.25 for Encore - Magic Hat Brewing Company. Asides from the seasonal sampler back, I probably won't buy this brew again. I'm still in my IPA training wheels, honestly.

Caramel golden copper color

Your nose can pick up on the bitter and wheat notes...

To be honest the first time i tried this beer I really enjoyed it, once i started getting into beer more and seeing what other breweries had to offer I realized MagicHat in general is a great introductory brewery. They have the ability to appeal to people outside of the craft brew community, which isn't a bad thing.
This kind of beer is exactly the kind of beer that can show a "craft beer virgin" that there is a beer out there that will appeal to your pallet no matter what your taste buds fancy.

This beer really hits home. But it is subtle as far as intensity of flavors. You are able to pick out the wheat and the hops, but its not overwhelming.
Definately a great introductory brew! Crisp and fresh-- great for Spring and Summer!

A: Pours a clear, copper color with a half inch of foamy, white head that settles slowly to a layer of bubbles on the surface. Some lacing as you drink.
S: Grassy, peppery, and citrus with the hops leading off and a mellow grainy base with a light touch of roasted barley and caramel. More herbally notes in there from the hops.
T: First a fresh grass, light pine, herbal and peppery notes hits the tongue with some bitterness. Then the semi-sweet toasted and bready malt backbone lunges forth and gives a wave of balance to this IPA. More bittering hops push this beer to the bitter end of the spectrum on the finish without any alcohol warmth.
M: Medium-light body with a somewhat moderate carbonation and slight slickness on the tongue. Then come the bittering hops to finish this beer on the bitter side.
O: A decent IPA to throw back pretty easy and satisfy the hop need and refresh the palate. If you are looking for a complex yet smooth as hell IPA this is not it but it is a good beer from Magic Hat and worth the try. It has something there to offer even a big hop snob. Grab one and enjoy!

a - Rust color with a 1 finger head. Nice lacing on glass. Cloudy.

b. Faint small of bitter citrus, grapefruit. Hoppy.

t. I like this blend of American Wheat Beer and IPA. The hops hits you up front and the grapefruit hits you in the finish. There is some alcohol in the finish, but not overwhelming. Bitter aftertaste - very hop bitter throughout - but not in a negative way. Could have used more wheat beer in the mix.

m. carbonation is very good.

o. This beer falls short of outstanding, but I would drink it again if it were offered up.

12oz bottle poured into a Dogfish IPA glass.

A: Pours a very cloudy orange color. Creamy off-white head retains very well. Plenty of stickage.

S: Vibrant hop oils front and center. Big hit of orange peel. Very green and pithy. Dusty and crusty malt base with a smattering of wheat. Faint whiff of alcohol. Blunt and to the point, if not one dimensional.

T: Very green, oily, and pithy. Catty and a little oniony too. Strong bitterness clamps down on the palate in a death grip. Stiff hit of solventy alcohol. Toasted crust. High oily bitterness and boozy on the finish.

M: Soft creamy palate is erased by a gripping wash of hop oils. Fine, scrubbing carbonation feels forced. Alcohol warmth in the swallow.

O: Magic Hat is trying too hard with this one. They need to take this beer down a few notches and focus it. It feels as though they made a bold, hoppy beer just for the sake of it. No balance or finesse at all, and it really wears on the palate.

Pours a half finger of head on a hazy dirty straw colored body.
The aroma is mild grapefruit, not much else.
The taste is a nice pine bitterness that tapers off. Simple but good.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
A fairly easy drinking IPA.

Pours amber color, slightly hazy, with a 2 finger width foamy head. Head retention is very good, as is lacing on the side of the glass. Has a malty, wheat odor with hints of pine and citrus (at the end). Taste of citric undertones with a slight bitter hop, ending in wheat undertones. Aftertaste is a little too soay. Not a bad beer, though. More on the lines of a strong American pale wheat ale.

Hazy light brown colored. A thin cap of foam covers the entire top of the beer. Aroma of citrus hops and pale wheat. The taste is a burst of citrus hops. I don't get much of the wheat as the fade is dominated by the hops. There's a bit of saltiness in the aftertaste. The feel is a bit warm and carbonated.

Pretty good wheat IPA offering from Magic Hat. It's not the best I've had, but I think the wheat IPA mix can be hard to pull off, and they do a pretty good job here. Nicer light flavor. You definitely get the citrus off the nose, I got more lemon than grapefruit I think, definitely pleasant. I kind of wish this was a summer offering, I think I might like it better that time of year, but it was still good.

Poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: A hazy yellow brown with a thick white frothy head that laces as you drink it.

Smell: Citrus fruit, grapefruit, mild hops.

Taste: Similar to smell, grapefruit and wheat up front, then hops at the end.

Mouthfeel: Mild carbonation. Finishes dry.

Overall: An interesting beer, a mix between an IPA and a wheat beer. I am a fan of both. The beer hits a little bit of both. I enjoy the beer and would drink it again.
