4 magic hat ipa’s side by side. 1 Electric Peel, 2 Encore (odd notion, wheat), 3 Lucky Kat, 4 HIPA. Taste has a bit of vinegar and maybe pepper. Pine. Hops. Not pleasant. Sour and bitter mix."

A: very slight haze; medium gold in color; with a fairly aggressive pour, a 3 finger ivory head that receded slowly to a wispy cap; very nice lacing;

S: very restrained; what's there is floral;

T: a hint of tropical fruit up front, then it's floral all the way; mild bitterness on the finish;

M: a little thin for an IPA; moderate carbonation; lightly dry finish;

O: not very interesting; not much aroma and the body seemed thin; no complexity in the flavor;

I'm not sure why I even bother with this brewery anymore. I can't remember I've had a great beer from them. Curiosity, I guess? Either way, this beer adds little to their "hoppy pale ale" lineup that needed to be added. Great head and nice medium body, but the flavors are just bitter hops, caramel and bread malts, slight buttery nose, and of course that lovely, oxidized wet cardboard flavor we all know and love that keeps popping up in their beers. I might be just about finished with these guys.

A nice IPA taste and aroma. If you like hop aroma and flavor, this is a very good beer. It is golden and the fine bubble just hover in the glass, almost like jello or what beer might look like without gravity; odd. Good stronger IPA from aroma through taste to aftertaste.

Pretty good IPA! Little bit of an after taste. Was light considering the abv which is too high for me to drink more then one of. Would be good with a meal.

Picked up in the ipa variety pAck. No date. Poured into pilsner pint glass. Clear golden with one inch head that dissipates to a very thin foam that sits at the surface. Little lacing and carb bubbles. Smell is bready almost like a pale ale or even a pilsner. No tropical aromas that I'm used to in an ipa. Taste fortunaly is better with a bitter citrus and is balanced nicely with malt. Dry finish and oily feel. Aftertaste lingers in the mouth. Another ok beer from Magic Hat. They make par beers that aren't bad but I just won't spend money on them unless it's something I haven't tried. And I hate there are no dates on the bottles. Cheers!

12oz bottle poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass. Pours a pale golden color with two fingers of head. Much lacing, and it lingers. Barely perceptible caramel in the scent, which foretells some sweet malt balance. Somewhat lacking in body. Hop bitterness is present from beginning to end; the malt backbone is evident in the beginning but fades quickly and leaves just the bitterness. Of the Magic Hat IPA offerings, this is my favorite but not a particularly memorable or standout IPA.

One of the best smelling IPAs I've ever had. Amazing notes of citrus and floral hops with a perfect hint of malt. The taste follows, though it's not quite as good as the smell would have you expect. Juicy, fruity, floral hops. Not much perceptible bitterness. More of a distinctly bready/crackery malt flavor than I've had in other IPAs. Very good. The juiciness of this beer is impressive - reminds me of Fresh Squeezed IPA by Deschutes.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle to pint glass

A: Golden yellow, white head.
S: Cream, raspberry, more citrus, and some sweet dough.
T: Sourness and bitterness hit the tongue first. Can't pick out much flavor other than grapefruit.
M: Medium
O: Just another IPA.

Drank bottle from 12-pack of IPA collection from Magic Hat

Look: Pours with small head and dark golden color

Smell: Grassy, piney. Not overwhelming. Had to search a bit for aromas, but were more apparent after warming for 10 minutes at room temp.

Taste: Dry, biting, and crisp in an approachable way. Slight alcohol finish. Hops are definitely at the forefront over malt.

Feel: Really blows your taste buds up with the bitter hops (which I enjoy). Drying finish that lingers a bit.

Overall: Solid IPA, would drink again. If you like a piney, dry IPA I would encourage you to try it.

I'm not a huge Magic Hat fan so when I found one of those assortment 12 pks at the grocery I was a bit skeptical but the price was right so hey, why not. The HiPA, Lucky Kat, Electric Peel and Encore were included. I got it home, chilled them down and decided to crack the HiPA first. It pours bright yellow with a thick dense head but as it settled it sort of became more honey toned. There's a bright citrus nose, a decent enough hops presence in the creamy body with a noticeable fruity finish. I enjoyed it plenty and we'll see how the others go. Nice job Magic Hat.

Surprised by the hop bill magic hat provided with this one. I'm not big on magic hats brews simply because for the most part they are mediocre. A dry smooth start with good carb, a crisp hoppy mid-taste with a bit of a fruit finish. Id think about buying again.

Hi.P.A. brewed by Magic Hat Brewing Company, with an ABV of 6.70% This brew pours out a cloudy amber color, with a nice white head. Hi. P.A. is an unfiltered brew. You can not see though it. The smell of this brew is rich with flavors. You pick up on grains, malts, and sweetness. You also pick up on a hit of citrus and spices in the smell of this brew. The taste is bold with flavor, it is bitter sweet. There is a citrus at the end of this brew brew. There is a lot going in this brew, you also pick up on the grains and malts in this brew. The mouthfeel is rich, full flavored and smooth. Hi.P.A. is a smooth drinking brew. There is nothing overpowering in this brew, it has a nice balance to it. Overall I'm Hi.P.A. a 4.5 out 5. Magic Hat Brewing Company did a nice job with this brew. I would buy this brew again.

12oz bottle with no date

Didn't pour this one out, so I can't comment on the looks of it. Smell was light and wheaty and not without hops. I would describe the taste as a muted little sumpthin sumpthin. I have no idea if it's a wheat IPA, but it tastes like one.

Not bad, but I wouldn't order it again.

DATE TASTED: November 17, 2013... GLASSWARE: Kisatsky Tavern pint... OCCASION: one sink leak fixed--tomorrow, the toilet unclogs!... APPEARANCE: golden yellow body--quite light (and bright!) for an IPA--and a thick milky white head; equally thick, cirrus wisps of lacing... AROMA: quite a fragrant floral bouquet with banana, clove and citrus zest--attractive and yet appropriate (!) for an IPA... PALATE: a bit acidic late, but overall a drinkable, persuasively medium-bodied ale that sits well in the mouth...TASTE: immediate punch of mango and peach gives way to pinecone; a comfortable, fruity, fittingly rewarding profile...OVERALL: The fall beers in this mix pack fall short, but the IPA wins out as distinguishing and desirable--this will b e my Magic Hat go-to in the future...

12oz bottle into snifter. The brew appears a pale golden color with chunks of yeasty particulate all through the body. A white finger fades leaving patchy lace on the glass.

The smell is minty and herbal with bready malt. Some hints of citrus zest and overall it is quite muted. A swirl releases some cheesy sulfur notes to the surface that arnt particularly good.

The flavor has some herbal to zesty hop spice/bitterness. It is lightly pithy to pulpy. Like the aroma, some cheese and sulfur becomes noticeable mid-palate before finishing with some toasty bready grain character and a hint of cardboard.

This is a light bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. Not terrible but not good either. I appreciate my brother gifting me with a bottle of this to try but I will pass on having it again.

An under-rated Hop bomb. The best I have tasted out from under the Magic Hat.

A: Pours a very hazed, very light apricot with a mid sized white head that paints a alot of lace. Well done.

Smell: Hops! Fruity, grassy, perfume-y, and slightly doughy.

Taste: Follows the smell. An original hop bomb. Biscuit and caramel (cinnamon roll) up front with a piney / grassy hop follow on... then the finish is a bit watery but enough bitterness and hop tingle to satisfy. Very hippy, flowery.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation, missing a bit of body in the finish.

Drinkability: A must try for Magic Hat. You wonder at all these seasonals, "IPAs on tour", as just a gimmick too far, but every now and then they almost get it right. This is an interesting refresher, hop bomb.

Pours a slightly hazy amber with a creamy tan head. Smell is that of candied apricots. Taste is a hint of ginger up front, then some sweetbread, finishing with some earthy hops. Smooth mouthfeel. Overall a pretty good IPA. A more balanced IPA than many.

A - Golden brown color, slightly opaque. Almost foggy. Small head that not last long.

S - Smells delicious. Katie is getting a hint of honey, and I agree. I can definitely smell the hops, and my mouth is watering. Compromised the score here to be a 4; I would've given it slightly higher.

T - Slightly sweet, can definitely get the hops in the aftertaste. Katie not a huge fan, but... she doesn't like IPAs. I love IPAs, and this one has a great aftertaste without... the initial sharpness? Not sure how to explain it, but I really liked the taste.

M - Katie felt it was overcarbonated, just like the previous MH we had. I somewhat agree, so we are going with a 3.25. She did say it was smooth.

O - Overall a great beer. Katie can appreciate it even though she doesn't like IPAs.

appearance; color is seems yellow, but is essentially a light straw color,pours with a finger of head that quickly settles to thin lacing, appears pretty carbonated.

smell; not much there, light citrus and a touch of sweetness.

taste; taste is bitter, with obvious hop presence, but the bitterness is unusually light on the tongue, causing the beer to go down smoothly and really adding a positive aspect to the beer. a hint of malts and some citrus notes. a little earthiness too.

mouthfeel; thin, a little watery, dry finish. weak carbonation.

overall; while the lightness of the beer while still upholding standard, expected IPA qualities gives this ale a bit of an edge in terms of standing out and pleasing on a couple of levels, this beer falls short of it's potential, by lacking much needed complexity and oomph this beer fails to impress.

Yellow to tan and pretty clear, head and lace ok but not fantastic.

Aroma and taste are nice and hoppy, citrus notes, a little floral and a nice but subtle malt backbone.

Drinkability is high, it's real easy to down and almost refreshing at the same time. Bitterness is prevalent, yet clean. Body is medium. Overall it's a tasty IPA and I've enjoyed my sixer very much.

Bottle > Pint Glass

A - Pours a straw yellow, 1 finger of thin fizzy white head, little lacing.
S - Smell is of tart citrus, sweet candy malt, some flour.
T - Taste is very tart and dry, some mild bitterness, a little sweet mid mouth in part of the malt.
M - Dry and soapy.
O - Bleh, no thanks.

12 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. My final beer from the Magic Hat Night Of The Living Dead variety pack, and I believe my first beer from Magic Hat's IPA on tour series. Expectations are relatively low based on the brewery. Bottlecap says "Ale is the grail". I have to agree.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Pours a light lemony orange colored body with one finger of bubbly soapy white head that recedes quickly. Doesn't look like much, but about average for the style, I suppose.

S - The smell is putting me off pretty badly. I get the slightest earthy vegetal hop presence, and some corn & grains, but mostly a strong sour vinegar aroma and nail polish remover alcohol fumes. Some hints toward Belgian yeast, banana, and clove. For an IPA, this smells pretty bad.

T - Taste isn't nearly as bad as the aroma suggests, but it still doesn't get much better, and this definitely doesn't taste like 70 IBUs. Leafy earthy hops, some grain, bready malt, hint of alcohol, and some metallic mineral presence.

M - Feel ends sticky and bitter with some hop resins clinging to the palate.

Overall, a generic simple boring IPA at best. Hop varieties are indiscernible, and there isn't much hop flavor to be had in the first place. Hops and malts are both present, but it creates a neutral attempt. Moderately high alcohol at 6.70% abv, I'm not quite sure what they were going for with this one either. It wasn't a horrible beer, but not particularly enjoyable.

12 ounce bottle poured into a 22 oz. TGIF/Applebees/Ruby Tuessday glass.

A big, fat head that tapers down the sides leaving a thick lacing. Golden, slightly hazy color. This looks nice, real nice. Coming back to here afterwards, the lacing lasted the whole drink and continued forming until the bottom was reached. Just upped Appearance from 4 to 4.25.
S--Hoppy up front with some citrus trying to hide in the background. A little piney. There's not an actual sour aroma, but something about it is making me anticipate some sourness in the taste.
T--Not this week's standard Hop bomb. There's actually a bit of maltiness there to balance the hops. Quite uncommon this week. I prefer IPA's this way. There's citrus (lemon, maybe grapefruit??) up front. The anticipated sourness is not there in the taste. There's some hard to identify fruit here as well. Very good, but not what an IPA tastes like currently.
M--There's actually some creaminess here, again, uncommon for today's IPA's. There's a little bit of dryness at the finish, but nothing out of hand
O--Good, damn good. Not what today's IPA's are, but damn good nonetheless. I'd highly recommend it for someone just starting out down the road to today's hop bombs. It will give a good picture of what an IPA can be, besides a hop monster.

A: The beer is hazy light pale yellow in color and has a low to moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high off white head that gradually died down, consistently leaving a short head covering the surface and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of citrusy hops are present in the nose—oranges seem to stand out in particular—along with some hints of pine resin.
T: The taste is dominated by the hops and has a moderate amount of bitterness, although the flavors are a little more complex with some citrus, notes of floral and spicy, and hints of pine resin hops. No malts are detectable.
M: It feels a bit shy of medium-bodied and crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation. The hop bitterness leaves some dryness in the finish.
O: This beer is quite bitter but still very drinkable because it doesn't feel too heavy on the palate.
