Cape Cod Beer

750ml bottle purchased as a single from the brewery.

Poured into a CCB pub pint, formed a 1/4" dark brown head over the opaque dark brown/black brew. Head fades gradually, with average lacing. Aroma is strong black coffee.

Taste starts with rich sweetness and the black coffee, creamy in the middle, and then some moderate hoppiness through the close. Coffee powers on from beginning to end. Mouthfeel is velvety smooth, and drinkability is great. Not the biggest coffee drinker, but have to appreciate this one.

Bought at the brewery and drank that night, since I couldn't wait.

What a beautiful stout! I typically resist describing stouts since they all look alike, with slight variations, but this one stands out. This beer is as close to black as I've ever seen and the thick, creamy mocha head clings to the sides and leaves curtains of lace down the sides. Amazing!

The nose sends me to a cafe, ordering a mocha latte with a shot of vanilla syrup. The coffee comes through nicely and chocolate and vanilla tones mingle with the cream flavors from the added lactose...in what form it's added, I don't know.

The bitterness is that of a decently string cup of coffee, but it's nicely tempered by the cream flavors, that reminds me of half and half.

It's a little on the thin side and that's my only complaint (other than I can't get any more). It's a little ashy, but that's not a bad thing. There is no ABV to found on this beast, but it seems to be a very tame beast. I'd be surprised if the ABV was over 6%.

Cape Cod Beer makes some really nice beers in their standard line-up, but nothing truly special...this one approaches special.

 

A: black as night, strong tan head, retentive lace. Gorgeous!

S: holy espresso, Batman! Strong and pungent, still malty, almost more coffee than beer.

T: follows the nose-- really strong coffee/espresso start to finish. Some malts and toffee, but mostly just coffee. And honestly, it's closer to coffee than beer.

M: body isn't nearly big enough to sustain a beer as heavy as this. Needs a bigger medium to deliver its roasty coffee goodness.

D: somewhat easy to drink in a vacuum; not sure how much coffee overload I can take in a single sitting though. A good beer that I'd happily drink again.

Thick light tan head rises well above the beer. A deep brown color that is certainly dark, but not confused with black. Just a hint of lacing.

Not a secret there is some coffee included here. Some sweetness as well. Getting almost as much chocolate.

Yes, I get the familiar taste that comes from Milk Stouts. I am not the biggest fan of that lactose flavor, but it seems to work even for me here with the coffee. Reminds me a little of a light Coffee Milk from Rhode Island. Lots of dark roasted malts in addition to the coffee. Less chocolate in the flavor than the aroma.

Definitely a milk stouts mouth feel. Slightly mucus like feel. Not bad, just typical.

Thanks to my Father-In-Law for picking up this bottle for me. I appreciate it. Glad I had the chance to try it. Cape Cod always does a very nice job.

A milk coffee stout made with beans from the local Beanstock roastery.

Black with 2 finger creamy tan head that fades to a finger.
Smell is not too strong. Chocolate and coffee with some sweetness to it
Creamy sweet bitter roasted coffee. MMM good. with bitter chocolate sticking on the tongue. Ok roasted malted up front that brings on some bitterness. But there is a touch of sweet that comes and takes that out, replacing it with coffee. That fades away to a deep dark chocolate.
Mouthfeel is a bit heavy, but thats cause of the lactose. So expected and goes well with the beer.
