Tasted this beer at my local Wetherspoon's pub in East End London last week, and it was a relatively fresh barrel when savoured. A multi-grain beer according to the beer clip, it, according to the brewery's website, is actually brewed with "Barley, Wheat, Oats and Crystal Rye" and hopped with "Cascade, First Gold, Fuggles and Styrian Goldings"... wow~~ what a complex beer it intends to be.
A: beautifully clear dark amber hue, with a negligible rim of bubbles on top of the liquid; the carbonation is quite low, with lots of extremely tiny bubbles attached to the glass...
S: sweetened grapefruit-juice, elderflower cordial, marmalade, plus a lightly salty note at the front, combined with lots of refreshingly juicy malted barley and lighter-bodied malted grains(might be wheat?). Quite tasty on the nose even~~
T&M: incredibly delicious and floating grapfruit juicy flavour initially, with a wheatish taste, elder-flowering flavouring, peaches, mixed malted-grains, and a pinch of salt; going hand in hand with the juicy grainy flavour is predominantly
Cascade and Fuggles' mixed hoppy palate, leading to an intensely fruity/citrusy and dryish hoppy aftertaste, with lots of floral flavour surrounding the mouth and chewy bitterness left on the sides of the deep end of the tongue. The mouthfeel is smooth--very very smooth actually, with good support of gentle fizz as well, making it easy and pleasant to savour.
D: overall a quite light-bodied yet nicely-structured and aromatic ale. I can't really tell if all those ingredients specified on their website are used in this beer, but this surely is a different take of traditional bitter or pale ale, ending up a crazily easy-drinking and tasty session beer!
