On-tap at Bastone. Leave it to Jason to find every obscure brewpub in the Royal Oaks area. Served in a taster pint.
A - Half-finger of tan foam settles to a thin cap, leaving behind nice sticky lacing. Black body with a glint of red to it at the edges.
S - Unsurprisingly there is a ton of coffee. Beyond that, there is chocolate, light vanilla, and a lightly fruity character as well. Solid stuff.
T - Taste doesn't work quite as wel for me, as the coffee flavor is more charry and stale. There's a strange burnt paper flavor in the finish, and the other flavors are milder. Slightly watery, but not bad - just a disappointment in comparison to the aroma.
M - Light body, lower carbonation, and no obvious alcohol. Texture is a touch watery and slimy, but otherwise this is pretty much what I'd expect from a lower ABV stout
D - It a passable, if slightly watery, coffee stout. A bit more heft to the body would improve this significantly, and it was one of the better offerings I had at Bastone.

Served on tap in a pint glass at Bastone.
Appearance: My pour is a nice full mahogany color that is properly dark and opaque all the way through. A glimmer of ruby exists at the edge of the glass. A medium sized very creamy tan head gives this stout a noble appearance.
Smell: The coffee is very strong in the nose. An inviting aroma of premium coffee is backed by dark roasted malt and some bitter chocolate.
Taste: The flavor of bold, rich coffee comes through right away, supported by a deep roasted malt. Some dark bitter chocolate gains a little vanilla and creamy sweetness toward the end. The bitterness from the beginning stays constant throughout the sip and lasts a bit into the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: Rich, creamy carbonation creates a very smooth feel that is noticeable right away. The body is full and robust and really contributes to a enjoyable drinking experience.
Overall: I was surprised by just how good this beer was, start to finish. There are not that many beers I will keep going back for, but this is one of them. Hopefully their other beers are this good.

Look:
Dark brown with a thin tan head.
Smell:
Coffee coffee coffee. I love coffee. Toasted grains and toffee round it out.
Taste:
Did someone say coffee? You can definitely tell there's coffee used in the brewing process, and it's well integrated. Roasted flavors and toasted bread are nice compliments. A bit acidic, a smooth flavor like dark fruit or cocoa would've helped balance it out in my opinion.
Feel:
Medium bodied and creamy.
I like that they took a chance and experimented on this one. Good beer, though a little unrefined.
