Black color and thick, oily, consistency. Somewhat thin light-brown head. Smell is a little indeterminate, kinda like a porter, "beery", but with a suggestion of richness.
Taste is absolutely spot on -- rich, rich, roasty, and yes, very chocolatey, despite the lack of any ingredients except hops and barley. There's a very slight initial sense of tartness like a dry stout, but this is quickly quashed by the overall richness and roastiness. With a thick and oily mouthfeel, that manages to also be crisp and quaffable at the same time, and little sense of alcohol, it's very drinkable as well.
This is yet another awesome beer from Yokohama Brewery, that manages to absolutely nail the thick and satisfying stout experience, provide a rich chocolatey taste using only barley and hops, and give much of the goodness of an imperial stout while remaining amazingly drinkable and keeping the ABV relatively low.
Highly recommended.
Sadly, this is a limited-production beer (only 2000 bottles), aimed at the Japanese Valentines-day market. Hopefully they'll someday put it into regular production...
