It has been my dream to spend a full day in the Fureai no Sato Onsen, home of Sky Beer, since I first tried their excellent beers. You could go in and out of the hot baths, taking breaks to slurp down either the pilsener or the weizen or to eat any of their reasonably priced, mostly noodle dishes (heavy on the soba and udon options) with other Japanese-style set meals. That would be a good day in Japan.
Value is high at Sky Beer, as their food and drink prices, as well as the onsen/spa are reasonable to cheap. Atmosphere is a little lacking, as it's a clean, new setup--which goes a long way for making the onsen great, but takes away some character from the brewery. There is a small explanation of the brewing process with the brewing space visible behind glass. Sky beer is the only beer offered in the restaurant.
As the previous review mentioned, they do offer growlers, of 2 different sizes, which discounts even further the price of the beer if you're a regular taking out.
Both the pilsener and weizen are unique and excellent--and even better on-tap.
Not the only onsen in Japan to become a micro-brew as well, but perhaps one that does it better than others.

Sky beer is the place to go. It is actually an onsen that started brewing beer in 1997. Their beers are great, only two, but of very high quality and taste. It's after tasting their beers that we decided to visit the brewpub. You can see a part of the brewing facility behind the bar, but the place doesn't quite look like a brewpub. People don't seem to go there for the beer, they just go there after the onsen. Atmoshpere is quite minimalist, bright, with lots of space and light. Service was pretty good, and I like how you can call the waitress simply by pressing the button on your table. My sausages were tasty, although a bit small, but I couldn't expect much more in Japan with 4 bucks. The beer was great; it was so good I didn't even care about the fact that it got served in a frozen mug. The price was low for Japan. They sell growlers too. It would be stupid not to stop there if you're in the area.
